I shut my comp off as I went to lunch. I come back, Suitcase won't initialize. That means I have no fonts other than what's loaded on my system. I'm in OS 10.3.
Any idea why it's constipated?

Throw out the preference file but not the font data file (cause you don't want to lose that)
see if that helps

Bah, it's even worse now. It seems some of my fonts as of yesterday decided to go poo poo on me...
I'll give that a shot though defjoe...supposedly my tech guy is coming intoday with a bunch of things to do, so hopefully that'll help too.

you might have to re install... could be a corrupt font that corruped all your data files

Just wait until you load a corrupt font and try to launch a Microsoft Office product (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint). I just installed like 2000 fonts, and Office suddenly wouldn't work (when I would initialize, the start-up screen would get stuck on 'optimizing fonts...' and automatically quit). After researching, I found that Microsoft does this as an added service to Mac-users. (Ha, ha.) Every time you launch an Office app, it previews every single font... if it encounters even one corrupt file, it aborts the process.
Pain in the ass. I had to go through everysingle file (according to the troubleshooting, you have to do it by process of elimination... removing one font at a time, restarting, and attempting a launch... imagine how long that takes with 2000 fonts).

Don't you have a program like Font Doctor? I know it's not the best but it narrows things down quite a bit without all that trial and error.
2000 fonts? Whew. All loaded? With no suitcase program?
Yikes. Asking for trouble.

April...that also happens when you have a font conflict. but of course it doesn't tell you what 2 fonts are conflicting.

Oh, yeah... when I tried to launch FontDoctor, it would quit.
That was why I had to resort to the other 'solution.'

it's a pain in the butt. it was happening at home to me and I read up on it. I thought i had it and then it came back again. but I got a new computer since then and reinstalled everything. that solved it for good. ;)
