I'm gonna get chewed up and spit out for even asking anything regarding raster vs. vector, but here goes anyways... :)

I have an image, all black and white, no shading, that is an outline of a teddy bear. It is drawn on an 8.5x11 page. If I scan it at a high resolution (1200dpi or something) and then do a live trace/paint in Illustrator, do you think it will get all funky?

Any other idea about how to create a vector image in this case?

I think you'd just have to try the auto trace and see how it turns out. Otherwise all I can think of is to redraw it. As long as you have a scan to work from, retracing can go pretty quick.

Trace it by hand for the best results. The pen tool is your best friend...lol.

I use my mouse and the pen tool for everything I draw...no matter what it is.

Good luck and post it up when you're done so we can check it out.
