i don't really have any brain storm right now, & this isn't the best time to post things are real slow at night so don't get discouraged if you don't get many replies til morning.

jasna,
welcome!
go to the hardware store. walk the isles and see if anything stirs up some creative juices. look at things with fresh eyes. dont be bothered by how they were designed to function, but how you can use them for your purpose. ive seen some pretty creative book binding done this way.
it also depends heavily on the subject matter of the book. for the best results, try to find a way to relate the binding to the content matter.

I wish I had someone to do my homework.
Home Depot (or similar) is better than a hardware store. So many things, so little time... Fiberglass would be a bad choice though.

sting, wool, and silk treads are always a winner. Try different materials for your covers, including fabrics, ply board various cards are also worth looking at.
fishing thread, fine wires, pipe cleaners - anything bendy would work.

You should use the skulls of small animals. Take the jaws out and use the hinge part from those.
But now that i said it you can't do that ok.
