I am trying to figure out what image format would work best for images that would be placed in the body of an email. All the work I do in photoshop is always at 300 dpi so I doubt it is a resolution issues....I try to put the occasional jpeg copy of an image into the body of an email but it always looks super crappy. Should I be using a different format or are there any other ways you could think of for the image quality to somewhat stay once in the email letter.

Jpegs would be your best bet, however not 300dpi jpegs. The extra resolution is actually probably hurting you here since some email clients will spend time shrinking the file to display the whole image in your open window. That shrinking may make the file look terrible. If the image needs to only be used in the mail message, then save it at screen res (72dpi) and at a width that'll comfortably fit in a email window. The other problem with this of course is that you can't control whether your recipients have their email client configured to view inline images.
Hope this helped.

I save down to 100dpi, and I make the biggest size either horizontal or vertical a max of 11 inches and let the fall go to watever. this keeps it so the client can print it out on a basic 8.5" X 11" color copier and see the proof. I use a level 8 compression on the .jpg to keep the file small. so far so good, haven't had any complaints.
