i got on the internet earlier today and saw this on my msn home page (hate me later, lol)...thought it was a cool trick, does anyone know how they did it?
check this out...on msn the swf on the left is usually 3 news headlines that alternate, the swf on the right is an ad banner...stuff to ignore, right?
so...i'm looking at the headlines earlier, and suddenly this dog runs out and starts feverishly digging for something...grabs it in his mouth and jumps into the ad banner, which starts it's animation/advertising...way to hijack your attention!...and so i ask, How'd They Do That?!?

Make a flash animation
put it in a div then absolute position it above the content
set the wmode parameter to transparent
let'er rip.
anything in the stage that doesn't have vectors overlays will be knocked out and you can see the page below.
only a few networks allow you to use this style of ad and they have strict regulations on what you can do with it.

What is the 'wmode' parameter, is this set in the HTML or the swf?

I had an ad on Weather.com look like it was ripping apart the website I was reading. Great big claw marks came right thru the page. After getting over being startled, I was pissed. I was reading that page, dammit!
Odd, too ,cuz the page was live. So the animation had to be over the top of it somehow.

i was kinda ticked too...seemed like an underhanded kind of tactic to draw attention to the banner ad...yet another inappropriate use of flash i'm thinkin'...very fascinating tho' :D
ps...i, too, would like to know about where to set the parameter...

From what I hear it's easier to do using css, but I friggin hate those things. Worse than any kind of popup if you ask me.

I've seen these alot and just wrote them off to flash stuff that shouldn't be done.
But the thing that most grabbs my attention about the graphic Flutterby has posted is what the HELL is Disney doing on the net that might involve a hot chick in a teddy?!
