Does anybody know anything about networking 2 PCs together. I have my two connected to a switch and that switch is connected to the internet. Both of my computers get internet access just fine, but the other day out of no where all of my folders vanished. Neither computer is recognizing the other on the network, but everything is hooked up correctly.
Anybody have any guesses.

Here are a few things to check:
Are they in the same workgroup? What do you mean all the folders went away, from where?
Restart both pc's and the switch, networks are funny like that.
did you install a firewall or anti-virus, those always limit network traffic until you specify not to.
do the folders your trying to access have sharing allowed?

I think its a software issue, not a hardware, not sure though.
I don't know what operating system you are using Neb, but I think its pretty general for both WinXP and OSX. You might want to look into the file sharing options and possably resetting/reinstalling the network/filesharing in your operating systems.
The software will try to reconnect to the 2nd machine, if this doesnt, you might have a bad cable, but you said those where fine to connect seperately, which leads me back to it being your operating system's network software connection.
And those extra things nyc_skater sugested.
