I work fulltime for a nonprofit but I've done freelance pro bono work on the side for a few years. I'd like to start a website where I might be able to attract some actual paying business and I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations of web site hosting companies?

My design experience is mainly print, although I'm familiar with Dreamweaver and GoLive. Ideally, I'd like the option of using a site-builder at first and then as I become more proficient, switch over to my own site.

Budget is tight and not looking for SSL or 200 email accounts... Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

1and1.com

Hosting plans starting at $2.99/month. In my opinion, really good. Good tech support, great admin page for all of your sites, really competitive pricing.

check it out.

Yeah, why not? I have been using godaddy for a while now and they have been just fine so far.

hey bostonguy, I'm right outside of boston, I host with Jagfly which is somewhat local, they are in the berkshires I think. I never have trouble with them, my hosting is a low monthly payment for me too, only thing is email has a capacity of about 10-20 meg I think...so you need to clear it out every now and then if you get large emails.

The company I've been with uses Pair networks, they have been nothing but a pleasure to deal with. I can't comment on prices compared to others but the customer support is excellent. They have never been down for the length i've been with this co. (6 years)
