I'm trying to convert a qiark file to .pdf with adobe distiller. The original document is 9 x12", but once it's converted it shrinks into 8.5" x 11. How how
I get it to convert to the proper size?

What version on Quark? I just have 6 left on my machine, but I believe earlier versions you could point it to where distiller was on your computer and it would PDF it through the PDF export plug in (which I think was free.)
You might want to wait and see if a current quark user can help you out. But knowing what version of Quark will help.

it's version 6.1. Currently I choose file, print and distiller listed as a printer.

Make sure in the page setup that you are not printing the postscript file to a letter-sized page. If it is, you'll get what you are describing. I think if you just print it to tabloid size but don't inculde crop marks, it'll either come out ok, or it'll be easy to crop in Acrobat.
BTW, I've had bad luck using Xpress' automatic PDF functions. You're best bet is to have a good up-to-date driver of a capable postscript printer on your machine and print postscript files using that, then use Distiller on its own.

Just go to "File," "Export to PDF," you'll get a hi-res file from that.
