Here it is, 1:30 am on a weeknight, and a long tractor trailer sized truck has stopped outside my bedroom window and started unloading cars and trucks for the dealership across the street from my house.

They're making all sorts of noise - chains rattling, ramps clanking around, slamming doors and all that. In addition, each vehicle that is backed odd the trailer backs into my neighbor'd driveway, shining its headlights right in my bedroom window. The tractor trailer is left running (loudly!) and its lights are still on, further illuminating my room and making it virtually impossible to sleep.

There has to be something illegal about this, noise restrictions and everything if nothing else. I just hope they finish up soon so I can get SOME sleep tonight.

It's most likely in voilation of your town's noise ordinance. Call the police.

OMGosh! that is awful. Sorry to hear about it.

Unfortunately if there is a commercial property across the street, you may be in a commercially zoned area.

It is unbelievably rude none-the-less.
Call the owner and complain as well.

^Echo all that. Check with your local police and see what the DB limit is on the noise ordinance. That def. stinks though.

I say run down the block a ways and cross the street (or look like you're coming from your neighbors house) and start chucking rocks... then disappear into the night. (next time - I was sleeping while this was going on)

Morea, get yourself one of these:

http://www.gadgetslab.com/car/spotlight001.jpg about $20-30.00

And one of these:

http://www.kuzsports.com/airhorn.jpg about $20.00

Thats a 2,000,000 candle watt power spotlight and a fog horn with acoustic range of one-half mile @ 120 db at 1 meter.

I'd walk up to those jerks give them a light in the eyes and a horn in the ears. Then thank them for keeping you up.

I wanted to break out my paintball gun and send him running. It's a good thing I was too tired to go down to the basement and get it out, because I'm a pretty deadly shot. And from the 30 or so feet from my window to the truck it would have stung like a bastard.

Especially if you freeze the paintballs before firing them.

I believe it's local authority that decides noise ordinances but most places have a restriction after 10pm, so I would definitely check.

If this is just an isolated incedent I would just let it go. Maybe the truck driver got lost or something, they can be on brutal schedules. If it happens a lot though I would definitely raise a stink.

In the town where I grew up, a builder put in a housing development across the street from a small slaughterhouse. After 6 years of fighting with the people in the development over everything from noise to smell, the poor guy finally had to shut down his 45 year old business. Couldn't afford the lawsuits anymore...
Who's in the wrong?

I'm with Kool. Once is ok, twice gets irksome, on a regular basis, check into it.

my house has been here 27 years, the dealership less than one.

There have been problems with them before, and complaints filed with the town by my neighbors. If it happens again, I will be filing one too.
