I hope I got this in the right forum, and I hope I am allowed to request for some help :P

So I started to redo my site, and it's coming out very nice. But my photoshop/flash talents only go so far, and I need help with a few things.

1. I want for my navigation bar, to be an image with a rollover, with a bottom glow effect like the one in this screenshot:
http://www.brockarthur.com/xupload/Beta/Orange.jpg
On rollover I want a fade in to glow to a corresponding blue (the light blue of the background: 436676) then on click a turn to the corresponding orange of my site (orange in the background: e49119). I know that can't be done with simply images, so I was hoping someone with flash talent could do it? Keep in the size range of the height of that screenshot, but able to fit in the space to the left of "-Reloaded", but since that is image space there, maybe going could incorperate that image into the flash? Maybe something like:
http://www.brockarthur.com/xupload/banner.jpg (where the white bar is)
I want the buttons to say "Home" "Blog" "Photos" "Contact" "Links". Then how hard would it be add sub-buttons below Links and Photos, and make it easy enough for me to edit and add links?

2. For my main content, I want boxes, but now just any boxes, the TV Guide channel boxes!
http://www.brockarthur.com/xupload/Beta/TVGuide.jpg
The "Tues" Weather box, minus the weather picture, I like the top color bar, it allows room for a typed header.

3. My flash intro is sort of... unprofessional, and novice looking, maybe someone could whip something out that is cooler?

I know this is a lot to ask for, but the original person who was doing my harder graphic work, just recently into a very deep, dark state of depression and is really not herself, it's not good.

I hope I made it all clear, if not you can PM me, IM me, email me or post here.

Oh, and to get the colors, here is my current progress: www.brockarthur.com/beta (http://www.brockarthur.com/beta)

I would have posted at neorequest, but I tried 3 browsers and none of them would actually submit the request .

tip:

1. Get rid of your flash animation because it contributes nothing to your site./
2. Most people here are professionals and will not do this work for free. We can suggest ways for you to do it, but its up to you. I suggest you look at http:www.good-tutorials.com for some ways to get these effects. Its probably easier if you just ask us specific things about a project.

This is why I went somewhere else than the forum I usually post on, and I get the exactly same thing here: It's all about money, what ever happened to people helping people? I am a 15 year old high school student with no job, I can't afford to pay someone. I would if I could.

Let's put it this way, you wouldn't take your car to get fixed and then not pay up for the work. it's just a brutal reality of the society we live in - Work = Money. Charity cases aside, If you don't like the idea of paying people to do stuff, it's time to learn it yourself. We can help you get past roadblocks in learning the ideas and applying them, but just doing it for you is helping neither you nor us.

If I just called you up out of the blue and asked you to research and write my 20 page term paper, just out of general friendliness and good natured people helping people kind of spirit would you do it?
Now if I paid you $100? $200? or $600? how about then?
Now why are you making a website anyway?
To further your own ambitions?
To show off your amazing talent?
Well, you gotta have talent to show it off don't ya?

please feel free to pose questions that we will be happy to answer. E.g. how do i get the actionscript to do this? Instead of seeming completely helpless.

Well, like the others said, I won't do it for you, but here's some ideas.
Ditch Flash first of all. All of that code to just do some fade in buttons is a bit of overkill. You can do those effectively with simple rollovers: blue glow on rollover, orange glow when on that page. I recommend making the boxes and other stuff in Illustrator where you'll have more control over the shapes, then importing it into Photoshop to do the image slicing. You'll need to experiment a bit to get the slicing right.
Some other advice is to try something a bit simpler to get to understand the tools you have before jumping in all the way. This is hard to do with all of these digital tools at our fingertips, but it's the best way to learn and not get too frustrated.

The simply fact of life is this. We do this to put food on our tables. Just like your mom and dad go to their jobs and get paid to do it so that you can eat we do the same for our families.

If we are about to do ANYTHING for free it will be stuff for our families or for our own enjoyment. Not for some kid that is too lazy to buy a book or look up information on the internet to learn it for themselves.

Ask your dad if he would go into work for free just to help out the people he works for. I would imagine you will get the same response from him as you are getting here. It isn't that we don't want to help. It is that we do this for food. We like it, but it's our job and if we do it, well refer to earlier statements in this post.

The whole world is like this. It sucks, but it's life. Good luck on your site.

Flashkit.com is a nice place. Google too.

Maybe go buy a book and learn Flash.

It's all about money, what ever happened to people helping people? I am a 15 year old high school student with no job, I can't afford to pay someone. I would if I could.

Last I checked, yes, it was all about money. I work to get paid. If I want something (a car, a TV, a piece of pizza) I have to pay for it.

I do help people though.

I helped someone push their car last week on the highway to the nearest exit because it ran out of gas. I helped my friend move a refrigerator from their old house they were renting into a new house. In the past I've helped people change a flat on the side of the road, etc. So, people still help people. I did all of those things for free (Okay, my firend gave me a few slices of pizza and a drink.)

People here give a lot of help, through advice, pointing people to tutorials, etc.

As several people here have already said, I would view this as an opportunity to learn a little bit more about doing this sort of thing on your own. The experience could help you down the line and even if it might not, learning how to do something on your own will help to make you much more independent, and that's a skill that will definitely help you in the future.

So, once again, if you want to ask for advice on things, we're here to help. Best of luck.

Can we finally put this one to bed? He's never coming back, he probably got whipped enough in the first ten forums he posted in.
