Okay just got a call. Someone who needed to find out some info. They have a kdf file. They said they need to fix a typo. I do a guick "file type .kdf" google search and find that it's a kinko's file. Supposedly they "designed" (loose term) a poster in the greatest design program entitled "word" (not only can it design large format, but you can write a letter to the printer in the same program, that's innovative).
What is a kdf? was I right? C'mon, all you Pop Copy shops, you know who you are. And what is it compatible with, just in case this guy or another "designer" with said problem should come to me in the future.
Thanks.

a .kdf is the exact same thing as a .pdf. infact, if you save your artwork as a .kdf, they simply convert it to a .pdf before printing. i guess its for people that cant save their work as a .pdf from home.

so, it's compatible with programs that open pdfs? and is it flattened, or is it workable? is it vector or raster based, or like a pdf, both?

its only compatible with Kinkos computer systems. they use their own special software to convert the kdf document into a pdf. you wouldnt be able to pull the file up using adobe reader.
all i know is that it converts it to a pdf. im not sure if it preserves the information, or simply makes a flattened version for print. you can probably call up a local kinkos and find out.

i just ran into something like this - we had a customer come in with a brochure that needed some type altered. when i got the file it was a flattened photoshop file - that's kinko's for you. I almost wondered if they deliberatly did this to keep others from using their files

cool. That's what I thought, but I figured someone on here would know better. See, Typo, you're not always a bad guy. I don't care what everyone else says. j/k. Anyways, thanks.
