This is one article I found about shingling. I am interested in learning more about it.

Is there some easier way... instead of shifting all the images and type, to design the pages as normal, yet have the pre-press shift the design work to compensate for the shingling... so that digital file is not messed with? Thanks.

Yes, there is a easy way. Let the printer take care of it. The printer will bring your file into another program to trap, impose and add creep (shingling). Your original is never changed. Also check this thread.
