Hi guys, I'm not really a "graphic designer" more of a Video, visual effects person. But I'm graduating from college in May and decided its about time I make myself a site....
Here is just the site now:
www.silverscreencreations.com (http://www.silverscreencreations.com/)
and this is what I'm thinking about for the main page, Draft #1: Only the HTML button works to show what the rest would be like.
http://www.silverscreencreations.com/images/site/ (http://www.silverscreencreations.com/images/site/)
so PLEASE critique away and give me some good suggestions.

Anyone?
ooohhh!! shiney!!!
I like it....
But none of the links work in (Firefox) I will assume that you are working on that...
And the text gets a little hard to read in the bottom right-hand corner.
It's a great start, keep up the good work and let us see it when it is finished.
Also, the forums get really slow on weekends, so don't worry if you don't get much feedback until monday.

They don't work because they don't point to anything. They poit to "#". It takes pretty long for the site to load. The main page is pretty fade, especially the left portion, the oane with the buttons. I think you should work a bit in that area, maybe an animation below the links....
abstract background, bleh. It just makes the type harder to read. Weird little windows on the bottom, what are they for?

The text in the gray bar at the bottom is not suppose to be readable, it was just meant to add some detail...

I'm aware that the links don't point to anything, as I said in my first post ONLY the last button works (the HTML/CSS button)

The windows at the bottom is where I'm going to put screen shots of my work. If you click on the HTML/CSS button you can see that the two windows on the bottom right have screen shots in them and turn color when you rollover them. I was thinking that once you click on the "window button" it would bring you to a page about that project...

It took too long to load, and I didn't see a way to skip the intro, so i closed the window.

I know it takes awhile to load that's because I didn't "cut" everything up yet. There is no way to skip the intro, that's why I provided the other link. I'm aware of all these things, I'm looking for design tips/advice on the page, not the loading, button link problems.

well then here's some design tips.
The main navigation is really just there, there's not much structure to it. Plus the over/active states are pretty harsh. You may want to tone it down alittle or even try something else.
The Background doesn't do anything for me, and it makes the text hard to read in places.
The blurry unreadable text, doesn't mean anything and really needs work. If you're going to do something like that make it obvious that it's a design element and not text. Make it bigger than the bar, and stretch out past the boundaries of the bar, etc. Right now it looks like it's the information for those buttons at the bottom.
The intro was too long (not loading, but playing).
It's not bad and it might be better once it's workable (with real text and pictures).
Is there a theme or element you're basing your design on? Or is it just "Ooooh Shiny"?

tb582,
the intro animation contains nothing of importance. its just eye candy that the viewer will have to patiently endure in order to reach the intended content. its serves no valuable design purpose, nor does it communicate anything of value. i would suggest getting rid of it all together. if you insist of keeping it, you should at least install a skip button.
as far as the rest of the design goes; there isnt enough here to give you a proper critique. you dont have any copy written, no examples of your work to show, and no interface to navigate. all of those things will greatly impact the design and flow of the website. asking us to critique what you currently have would be fairly unhelpful to you as you continue to make design decisions.
having said that; its too techy. it looks like a screen shot from CSI, or an FBI computer of the future. it doesnt say "graphic designer" to me. the white text over the chrome, swirly background is difficult to read. the blurry text on the grey bar looks like a mistake, and not a purposeful design decision. the navigation is too isolated, creating an ununified/uncohesive layout.
i would suggest doing more work on the site. make some final decisions on copy and go ahead and code a couple of pages. give everyone a better idea of how the site will ultimatly function. once you do that, you will get more replies and better quality advice/opinions/suggestions.

Apparently I don't have whatever version of flash it uses so I never saw it.

Great, thanks for your comments, I'm going to try to work on this later on this week.

Yes I am aware of all these things, it is just meant for a "coming soon" page once I get the site up and running, it will be taken down.

Examples will be up shortly, I'm going to try to get to it this week.

LOL Cool, I like that you think it looks like something from CSI or the FBI :). I'm not a graphic designer, I'm a video/special FX person.

Will Do...

I meant the bottom right hand corner of the text box. There isn't enough contrast between the white of the text and the white of the background.... sorry for being unclear about that.
