Hey there, new guy here, great forum!

I was redoing my site and papers and thought up a new identity, but can't decide if i should trash the old one.

Let me know what you think about them.

Old (just the raw template of the site) (http://cmarriott.com)

New (business card) (http://cmarriott.com/logoidea)

Thanks

you like big things (elements) don't you? The proportion of certain elements in each of these identities? seem to be really large. I.e. they dont have much breathing space- whitespace.

cmar,

the logo on the business card doesnt include the overly huge exclamation mark does it? also, is it supposed to read "design solutions marriott", or "marriott design solutions"?

initials make bad logos, unless you want to be known by your initials. if you dont want to be known by your initials, then i would avoid them completely.

the logo on the business card looks awkward. the leading is too close, forcing some serious visual conflicts between letterforms. the massive 'm' takes up too much visual dominance. the 'o' in 'solutions' dotting the 'i' in 'marriott' looks forced. they are an inappropriate match. the two dont complement each other, except for the fact that they are both white. i would highly reconsider that design decision.

thats my two cents.

As much as it pains me to say it (;)), I have to agree with Typo on the "Design Solutions Marriott" thing. It just doesn't track right and the dotted I does look forced.

The large M doesn't really relate to any of the other elements except for baseline.

On the first logo, the use of the © symbol is just ok (been done many times). There is no real dominance of M over © or vice versa to read as your initials. And I've never been a fan of pseudotransparency such as you've used where the M crosses over the ©. It adds a third color in my world where it just a screen in yours.

Rework your second concept a little to see if you can balance out the elements and get it to track.

Personally I prefer the second style over the first. But I'm going to agree with Typo and Print. When I first saw the card I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. I do, but there's just those few things bugging me.

still not giving yourself enough space. Its a fine balance between making a design eye catching and having clutter, and over dominant elements. The typeface for "design solutions" is not working in a serif.
