Ok here is some of my work blah, blah, blah. I kind of feel I am on a road to no where anyway, I might as well get my work looked at.

I don’t know what style I have…..maybe a bit of grunge, I am not sure.

I am jobless and have been for a while, as I cannot work for companies due to my dyslexia. I am also the most least technical minded person you will ever meet so working for myself (or trying too at least) is so far a nightmare. I am getting advise from people that differ so much I am just getting confused, to be honest I dont know what I am doing. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/Fashy/Designs/SadSigh.gif

Just stick with it, it will all come together sooner or later. You have a lot of talent there, your images are great. The use of color is incredible, never give up on a dream.

There is a guy that works here that has dyslexia...

and as for lack of technical ability, looks to me like you can use graphics packages so how much more technical do you need to be? Technical knowledge is good but it can never replace raw talent which you seem to have looking at the few images you have posted.

And as for feeling like you are on the road to knowhere... join the club :D

i'm afraid that is the creative temprament. ;)

ive been doing this job for 12 years and im still not sure i know what im doing (thank god nobody has noticed!)

I like the bottom two best but prefer the bottom image as it has a bit of space in it.

You wrote of not being technical minded; most truly creative people aren't.

Emmanize, I envy your creativity. I'm one who has a problem doing truly creative things. I'm constantly battling to find my own voice, so to speak.

Keep going with it. You're doing well! :)

Haha, that sentance is funny... kinda reminds me of my cousin who would say, always sometimes... But seriously, you are talented, you just need to keep at it and eventually something will happen. Hell, I almost gave up to become a salmon fisherman in Alaska or I was also thinking about joining the army - those recruiters are GOOD (they can sell you a dream)

Thanks for your great comments guys; it means a lot to me.

I think the problem lies with the fact that I am trying to work for myself and I am useless with things like flash (at the moment) PHP, Java and so on…

I know many will think this is a BAD idea, but I am thinking about stating the fact that I do not do flash at the moment, on my site. I just can’t lie and say I can and then lose sleep over it. I am a worrier at the best of times lol. I am still learning Flash in the background and I can do the basics, but not quite flash intros yet. I can also draw in flash:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v123/Fashy/Designs/doggiescreenshot.jpg (My rather crappy example LOL) I would love to be able to do cartoon animations - maybe one day.

However, saying that I don’t see why I couldn’t earn money from my creativity….fingers crossed.

I have a hard time drawing in flash... I have to do it in illustrator and drop it in. I always forget the fill and stroke are seperate peices and then I move something and a while later I notice a stray stroke in there somewhere... delete it and you got crappy white space in the middle of your drawing. That dog doesn't look crappy - except maybe he left side of his mouth (or I guess it's his right) and he's crossed eyed, but that's cute in a puppy :)

it depends on what you want to do... to be a designer or an illustrator you dont need to know how to use flash, php or anything like that.

Ive tried... it made my head hurt. I learnt enough to get my site up but wouldnt advertise myself as being a web dude. :D

i first got into design by getting briefs off creatives and working on concepts and design in my spare time... gradually through sheer persistence and them criting my work i got a half decent portfolio together and got myself a job.

you could always do the same thing... heck im sure the guys and gals here wouldnt mind forwarding some briefs to you if thats what you wanted.

Defiantly rather do Graphic Design. I never did that puppy picture (coz I am bit rusty at drawing) I just enhanced it in flash. I have one of those graphic tablets that I am still getting use too (It’s a pain to be honest I don’t like them.)

I think its best I advertise myself as a "Graphic Designer" (but you just know that people will think of "Web Design" Or "Web Development" as I prefer to call it).Thing is I have my Business cards Printed out and it has "Websites" stated on them :o

Here are a couple of sites I have done for fun and practise:
http://www.freewebs.com/gordonsmith/ (http://www.freewebs.com/gordonsmith/)
http://www.freewebs.com/goldenbunnies/home.htm (http://www.freewebs.com/goldenbunnies/home.htm)
*In fact I have probably improved a bit since then*

As you can tell they lack anything technical. I am ok with web building but should I get the PHP, Flash, Shopping cart skills come up I am goung to be stuck :(

I think I know where you’re coming from; I feel the same way right now. You feel you have potential, but you don’t know how to squeeze it out, and all you want is some guidance. I think right now I’m scared to tackle the graphic design world because I don’t know how to tackle it, and I feel I’m not good enough. It sucks being lost.

I do see potential in your work…

If you don’t mind me asking how long have you been doing this kind of stuff?

Mar1300,

I have been designing for years now. But at home on a personal bases. Its something I could always pick up, and I always have ideas.

But what you stated about the guidance was very correct and how I feel. I have been feeling that lost and low I have been slacking and doing other things.

i can so relate!...i feel like roadkill on the road to nowhere right now!...the more i read/study, the less capable i feel...but you know...it doesn't all have to be tackled today...it's all cumulative...every little bit of progress towards the goal is still positive motion and counts overall...it's when you stop trying that you fail...so keep going...you'll get there!
