I'm about to a comp of to a client for (hopeful) approval.
It's for a California Mortgage broker. I was shown time.com and forbes.com as sites they liked.
C&C on these before I pop them in the (e)mail would be great

I like the second one..(all red) for some reason. that red high lite oval shape isn't looking rite to me....it mite look better with the letters just turning red....

The first design with the orange is better, IMO. The orange makes those areas stand out (which is what you wanted, I'm guessing). Nice work!

I don't think seeing a lot of red (below the profit line) and orange (cheapened goods/serivces) is going to allow the client to feel as comfortable as they should when considering a mortage firm. Diversity amongst the competition is usually a good thing, but in this particular context I don't see it working.
But then again - saying 'i'll make it blue to be safe' isn't exactly the right answer either.
I'm tired..blah. Night!

clients colours - I know what you mean about red - I dont actually agree with you but I take your point. I'm not sure why orange equates to cheapened goods and services though?

I'm not saying it always does - but it definitely lends itself towards that in many situations...just something I picked up from a marketing 650 lecture the other day, and when used in a certain context I think that it holds true.
Have you attempted to speak with your client about the color choice being negatively associated with this area of business? Agreeing with a client-based decision without at least attempting to involve your input is selling your soul imo.

Pretty good article - fact of this job is that you can disagree with your client, put the case forward for a different option, tell them why their ideas are not a good idea etc. but ultimately, it's their dime. Or is it just me. Am I just jaded and cynical after doing this job for 8 years

I think red is a power color, personally. But orange I do kind of agree with about the cheapened goods thing. Then again psychology of color is a lot of new-agey bs in a way too because it all depends on context.
Yes I do make a living at this, but I don't now jack poop!!! LOL

I like the second one best too. When I looked at both sites I looked at them as a layperson (I didn't even think about what the colors meant etc.). What I mainly did was pay attention to where my eyes went and what my very first reaction was to seeing the site. I never even thought about below profit line or cheapened anything (though I do think the orange and red tried to fight with my eyes attention too much). I think most people won't associate the color with any meaning. We gotta remember as artists we think about this stuff ALL THE TIME. But most people don't and won't care. Go with two and your good.
