looks nice, i like the feel you have going and your work isn't bad either! :)

but i think it takes too long to load initially (i think its your backround image)
what would it look like if you background was black instead of that huge image?
Your motion tweens are a little too slow for my taste. and the preloading window outlines seem a little weak, what if you filled them in with an 50% opacity of a color (black to match your background)... my 2 cents.

i agree. the load time is way to long.

The main image on the intro page is 232kb. Holy shit.

You should just get rid of the "intro page" altogether.

Let's see here.
Long load times. What effect do you achieve with the flash that you coulnd't acheive with html?
Music on the site. You are a web developer, not a musician. Besides, I had music playing already and was quite annoyed with yours competing.

Flash removes many browser features (back button, bookmarking, the search function), and requires me to sit and wait while your site loads and moves around. I'd get bored, and go to your competitor. I'd be amazed that I even found you online if I was looking for a web designer, what with the lack of indexable content and no keywords or description.

wonder what makes the load times long?...

IF you elect to keep the music (wouldn't recommend it)...it would be nice if you let viewers know they can click on the 'bouncing bar' thingy to turn it off...thankfully, it ceased to function after a time...don't know why...it was only after i inadvertantly rolled over the bars that i discovered it to be clickable...

you have some interesting pieces there...cool!

For starters, the image "opener.png" is 283k in size. Second, the background image is 445.24k. 728k in images on your page would tend to make it load slowly.

Ouch! Sorry...

Nate, please don't take this the wrong way. If you're going to sell web design, you'd best learn how to optimize your graphics.

of course, i do realize this...however, i was wondering if there were other factors besides optimizing images that would contribute to long load times...sorry for not clarifying...

...i was wondering if there were other factors besides optimizing images that would contribute to long load times. If you're viewing the site with Internet Explorer, Direct X has to handle the PNG transparency. It's possible that this can cause a slower load time.

Thanks for the advice guys, I agree, I need to do something about that front page. I just learned how to make it so IE can handle PNG's with javascript and got all giddy about it. plus the bg image is way too big...so I'll change it soon, when I'm not feeling so lazy. I'd like to keep the music, so I'll just make it more obvious that you can turn it off. Thanks again

Nate, I was able to get those images down to less than 60k by combining them and making one jpeg image. It still looks good. I'd post it if it wasn't so damned big (1280 by 960).

The wake site was actually just a school project. If you wanna e-mail me, it's nate@natesdesign.com. I'm pretty new to this web stuff, I've mostly focused on print design until fairly recently.
