Man, I know they're not the best in terms of quality, but I bought a Caligraphic Ornaments CD from them that was suppose to be EPS - NOT!!! They're just saved as EPS and they're so bad, it's not even possible to clean them up.

OMG - can you return them? What a stupid, mean thing to do!

that seems like false advertising. I hope you can get your money back! :(

It gets worse. I bought TWO of them...LOL. I bought one and it vanished, so I had to order another, then months later, found the original under the drawer in my desk, still in the package (they come sleeved in a book). ARGH. I doubt it would be worth it to pay to ship them back. Maybe I'll get a big run on grunge covers and can use them there, all beat up.

I also bought a book from them of copyright-free images that could be scanned - textures, like rocks and bark, etc. I ordered it off the net. When it comes, the cover is in colour, but ALL the images are black and white, and I thought they were colour.

Good thing I have kids who can use this stuff.

Wow. New to Dover, eh?

All their stuff has been in black and white since day one. I've never actually bought a disk from them but would expect the same quality as their book binding. LOL. At least the pages releasing from the glue make em easier to scan.

I like their black and white line drawings a lot though. We use them occasionally in period museum exhibits.

Yeah, I haven't seen them since the '80s when we used their clipart catalogs at the newspaper. I assumed they'd kept up with technology..LOL. I will say that I bought a CD of old fonts from them, and they're not bad - at least not as display fonts, I don't think I'll every experiement with them under 60 pt!! Anyway, I went all hog wild over a few months and bought 6 or 7 of their products. I did read the decriptions carefully - but it's not true about their stuff being all black and white. I bought their butterfly collection to make shadows with and it's all colour. It seems hit and miss...for what I needed the fonts and the butterflies were worth the money. Ages ago I bought line art of dragons and since I'm doing the colour myself, they're also fine - used mostly as guides. The EPS thing ticked me of though....if it SAYS EPS, it should BE EPS. Likewise the textures- should have said they were black and white.

When you say eps, were they vector or raster? eps can mean either.

Sorry, I didn't know they actually had color product. Haven't seen any or had a need I guess.

They were raster with a white background...they were actually just gif files pasted down and saved in EPS format. I believe anything that is in native EPS format would have to be vector, although you can certainaly save a bitmapped image in EPS format....it's like saving a Word Doc as a jpg though....it opens in the right programs, but has few of the characteristics or qualities.

These were ornaments, though....swerves, shapes....there was really no point in creating them unless they were truly vector.

Sorry you got taken. I'll be sure and never use them for anything.

Don't write them off, Stever. You never know. Some of their stuff is hard to find.

Cat, I'd write them a letter or give them a call or send em an email. They will probably respond in some way. You may not get a refund. Or maybe you will.
Just be sure, before you step off that cliff, that nowhere in the collateral or on the disk it says "for web use" in any way. Because that's what it sounds like.

Yes, PrintDriver, I agree with you. I'd never discount them...there are some gems there and everthing is useful to someone, even "rough"....they're also cheap ;)
