Nice. But you don't have any shadow. It looks like the board is floating in the air. The pieces need shadows too.

Actually, I do see shadows...they just seem to in the wrong place. I wonder how that happened.
Suggestions: Play around with the surfacing to achieve look you want. It is not clear whether the pieces are colored plastic or a matte metal. I'm not certain if your app supports HDRI lighting, but I'm willing to bet it would make your render a lot better. Try a marbled surface on the chessboard. Also, the surface the board is sitting on looks really pixelated. I'm not sure if that was your intent, but if not increase the resolution of your image map.
I believe the first 3D scene I rendered was a chess set also...

My point in showing this model was the modeling it self, each pawn individually, nothing more
