I'm thinking of going into the webdesign business as a way to earn some money through college. Mostly dealing with making logo's and websites. I had a few questions first...
What programs do you mostly use for making things like logo's?
-I've been using fireworks, but it seems limiting to me while photoshop seems much too complicated.
What should I export the files as?
-I'm pretty sure jpg's can't be blown up. I hear a lot about vector and raster but am still kinda confused.
I know I will have more questions, but just can't seem to think of them at the moment...
Thanks for the support!

I don't think asking a forum of design professionals for help so you can make some extra side cash is a good idea. None of us think of this as a quick way to make easy cash because it isn't. To think it is belittles us, the craft, and yourself.
Having said that, use a vector illustration program to create your logos. Export settings depend on the destination and content of the file. There have been a lot of threads on the forum about file formats. In fact, i think there is a sticky thread around here somewhere about it.
Try searching the forums for a bit to get an idea of what this place is like.

I'm not 'belittling' your career. I'm only interested in designing logo's and making websites. Is that really all that you do in your career? No, its not. I'm not interested in designing for big companies and making brochures and all that other stuff you do to support yourself. I'm only stating the truth though, I want to create logo's and websites for some money during college... which the last time I checked was a four year deal... which would also give me a lot of experience and help me later on since I MIGHT WANT TO BE A GRAPHIC DESIGNER FULL TIME and get the big jobs with big companies and make brochures and all other kinds of graphics. Making logo's and websites seemed like a good way to make some money, because of the flexibility in work hours and it would allow me to make money doing something I enjoy doing. I, in no way meant to 'disgrace' your career. You should be applauding the fact that I want to do what you are doing yourself. Just because this is a site full of professional graphic designers, does that not mean you can't help a person who is thinking about becoming one? you have to start somewhere right? In my case, I'm starting small and maybe work my way up to bigger and better things...
...now, specifically what vector based program do you prefer?

Well I think maybe what he's trying to say is that neither endeavor is a quick solution, which is what it kinda sounds like you're looking for. To do either well requires a good amount of study and time.

Adobe Illustrator and CorelDraw are both vector programs, you may choose the one you find easier. If you wish to know more, read about vector programs:D.
Good luck
