Just got a freelance job offer for a whole redue on a website....what should I charge???
I may be solo on this...this project..so I'll be doing everything...photos...layout...content...updating. ....christ...everything!
Any advice on how much to charge....by the hour or as a whole.
Any suggestions are welcome. I'm kinda new at this freelance stuff, but I gotta pay the bills, so I'm giving it a go.
Current work with webmaster Thor!
http://www.shinders.com/
Current full time job above+instore signs for 13 stores(design, printing & productin), so I'm pretty busy already!
The freelance is an old horror website that needs a fresh face and would be done in my spare time.
I get paid by the hour here at work+overtime...so what should I charge for freelance??
Help!

it's illegal in the US for professionals in an industry to discuss their pricing, as it can be considered price setting.
For tips, check out the graphic artists guild's pricing and ethical guidelines book - you can often find a copy on ebay.

I would give you $5 based on your spelling. You should check and REDO it ;)

Ya know I could be a total ass...but I won't....I'll explaine myself...dyslexia is a fickle condition. Now, I don't see things all jummbled up but I do have an output problem as you have pointed out. Sometimes my brain and fingers are not in sync...so stuff comes out wrong. That's why I love spell check and grammer correcting programs because it helps, but here on this board...I get off quick messages on topics, sometimes in between phone calls, print runs, and job orders. I'm not concerned about -" did I spell everything correctly!"..it's the info I'm after.
I have had people tell me about my spelling my whole life...and some would judge me just by that...but it doesn't make me stupid...it just makes me work harder and become better.
So if tiny grammatical errors incite you to make off comments..be my guest..my skin is tough...but realize that it is a condition that I have no control over. And hey..five bucks is five bucks...right. So have a nice hetad
eshaols...and no that is not Klingon.
 then :)
30 mins later.
Ok..I'm over it....I didn't mean 'So have a nice hetad
eshaols...and no that is not Klingon.' Sorry....it's just that I have heard that a ga-jillion times......I know...I know spelling is important...but my brain is not always on the right train...and beside derailment can be fun!

Just an update...I spoke with Bill, my new boss...and we worked out an plan...we divided up the the work in to projects and I will be paid by the project...with a bonus at the completion of the website as a whole.
I was also offered the job of updating, so this job is going to last quite awhile....steady money!
I'm also excited because he did not know that I am a photographer as well..so we are working out a deal for me to travel with him and take photos for the site. I find this quite exciting becasue I never get out of MN...and traveling to Horror Conventions and taking photos is...well it's my dream job! I love horror movies and sci-fi...so I couldn't ask for better.
So thanks to those who had positive suggestions...and a BIG thanks to Morea...that info was great!

I am super excited....but it's going to be a lot of work. Most of it done over the web...through e-mails and PDF's...but looking forward to that traveling gig.. I hope the full time job can accommodate the time I will have to take off for travel, they should...I have a lot of vacation time stored up.
I was madly e-mailing into wee hours of the am...jobs(New Boss!) in CA...I'm in MN...but we got a plan worked out...and he seems quite generous as well. Frankly...this may be the best gig I've ever had...I'll keep you updated and of course...ask for help, opinions, and support. I'm glad I found you all here..what a great place.
Hey, here's a weird thing....with most of my jobs..I rely on reading peoples body language and facial expression for hints as to if I'm on the right track and things are clicking...and with this job...no face to face until September..when the Boss come for a visit to MN....!
Anybody in the same boat?
