I know so little about the differences and uses for Final Cut, Premier and After effects.
Can someone put it in simple basic terms to satisfy my curiosity what they are for and their differences.
Thanks

FinalCut is apple's video editor, Premier is Adobe's video editor, Adobe's After Effects creates motion special effects, 3d text etc. Motion is Apple's equivalent to Adobe's After Effects. After editing in the programs you can export some or all of your video and apply effects and then import back into the editor. The editors can apply special effects also but is limited in this funtion. There's also Avid Express video editing made by Avid. You can also use the monster special effects software Maya with these editors. And I believe you can do web design with all of these programs to some extent.

Just took a class in Final Cut and I love it! Easy to learn, easy use (if you are really into it). It's kind of like photoshop in the way that you can pick up the basics easily but there are oddles of things to learn.

It's a blast! I just finished a 2 hour DVD created from old 8mm film for a family. Created a nice menu, used their music and created special effects. They loved it.
