Hi!

I'm a big noob when it comes to printers. I checked out the Printer review thread but I was wondering what is the most popular printers that graphic designers are generally happy with?
From my quick searches seems like the Canon i9900 and Epson 1290 are nice. But they are photo printers..do those do well printing on other media(something other than photo paper)?

I dunno, basically I just want something that can print at least tabloid (11X17) and is versatile enough that I could use other media (like bristol paper or transparency). Also probably an Inkjet with a max $500-600 range.

Any ideas/experiences would be appreciated very much.

Thanks!! :)

After some research it seems the Epson Stylus Photo R1800 is the way to go..

As with all inkjets, check the cost of consumables.

I saw the Epson 1800 but couldn't determine quickly if the inks were in separate replaceable containers and how much priming it takes to change the blacks.
Let us know how it works out.

Thanks for the response! Well in my research I found out that it has 8 seperate pigment based ink cartridges. And that was mainly drove me to buy it over the previous 1280 version.

But yeah, just purchased it and I'll be sure to let yall how it works out. :)

I have been running a Cannon i850s and Cannon i9100 for a few years now with no real complaints.

Inks can be expensive, but Fry's sells a genaric ink that works well as a sub for moch-up work.

I love my Epson 2200, 13" by 120" if your running 2000 Pro for your OS. It matches up well with my offset printer that I use and they are all seperate consumables as a 7 color using the CMYK with a lt. C and M and optioned out with a matte black for uncoated stocks. Gotta change it out with the Photo black.
