Gary Simon has a tutorial on how to make an awesome logo. Personally, I don't think the logo is awesome, but he explains why he made certain choices within the design process. Great little tutorial.

Ok, I have to say it breaks a few logo rules that I follow but the one that really took me back was the fact that he wrote a whole speal about not using other ppls work and then he goes ahead to do it?! The image he used he got from an image search on google. Meaning it wasn't his. What's the point of saying you aren't supposed to do that if he goes ahead and does it anyway in his tut? Really didn't like that he did that.

I can understand the idea behind doing the tut and I think that's good. It's a good way to show potential clients how you work.

ugh. not only did the logo come out extremely horrible, he used photoshop to make it. someone needs to give him a few lessons.

QUOTE:If you're going to trace, I always suggest using a site like istockphoto.com to find the image and pay for it. This way you won't be using copyrighted images to trace over./L

He thinks images from istock aren't copyright protected?? And do they allow people to make logos with their images, most companies won't, anymore. Heck, you can't even use some fonts to make logos, these days.

Nuero, how did you know he used an image from Google? Does it say that somewhere? I couldn't read the whole thing, it made my hair hurt.

Morea, I thought it said "breasts," too..heheheh

He did say that he got the anime image from google images because "istock didn't have anime."

72dpi, RGB, PhotoShop, image plundered from a google image search!

I know I know, it's for a gaming website. But what about when these gamers want it on a tee shirt?

Sorry SurfPark, but this really should be called how not to make a logo. :(

Oh yeah, I saw breasts too. I think part of it is because the guy is holding the word in the same manner as a large breasted woman would hold hers.

I'm a large breasted woman...they really don't need to be carried, they'll follow along on their own if you let them. ;)

LOL, forgive me, my only exposure to large breasts or any breasts for that matter is one, my wife who never really holds hers at all, and two, porn where they all seem to hold them like the logo. :D

The part I liked about this was that he talked about the importance of typography and placement. The many rules he broke was creating a vectorized icon from a copyrighted animated character! I don't care if you yank out all the details or change the colors...the shape of the hair and head were the same!

I think there was probably a lot of slack towards the author on this. Its kind of funny because he obviously tried to help people, but he didn't think about the legalities of making an "awesome logo." I post these things because I just get a darn kick out of them.

Heh...

I sent him a lengthy e-mail earlier today regarding his web site's false information regarding rights-managed photography, as well as the direct copyrights he was infringing.

At the end I asked him nicely to update the site with the correct information and remove the copyrighted images...I guess he took my request seriously.

He hasn't sent a response back though :(

It might be some young guy...I kind of like some of the things he created...copyright legalities aside, he wasn't completely talentless. And, his writing wasn't all that bad, either.

He's a jerk. I IM'ed him about lessons or some basic photoshop help. He took around 20 seconds to reply and only said "cool" and logged off. I thought that it was fishy so I changed on to my old Screen Name and it said *suprise!* he was still on. I said he didn't have to be a d*** about it and he told me to "shut your nerdy n***erish a** up." and blocked that name as well.

And not only did he take down his tutorial, but all his website as well.
