This is so not my area. lol I know nothing about horses, but I'm designing a site for horse enthusiasts. Just working on a little branding image right now, it's going pretty well, but wondering if anybody has additional ideas.
Words I associate with horses:
horse (haha)
western - cowboy - cowboy hat
saddle
rope/lasso
ranch - grass - fense
per the client
I would like the design to incorporate a natural feel, which means lending it a rustic vibe. I would advise the use of earthy colors, such as browns or forest greens. If we use a horse graphic(s) in the header I would like it to be a headshot of a proud and majestic breed such as an Arabian, Andalusian or Rocky Mountain Horse.
I have no idea what the difference between this horse and that is. I'm off to google now, but just thought I'd see if anybody had any ideas to spark something I'm not already thinking of.

When it comes to horses, I personally would do an equestrian type design with majestic crests and all. But since they are looking for something more rustic, I'm at a loss.
Yeah 'cause I don't think it's *that crowd* -- he mentions country in the brief as well. I live in the city. lol

unfortunately some of those words I don't even know the definition of. but some jump out as most helpful. I thought about the horseshoe, that could be cool. I think it's such a generic horse enthusiast crowd that I can't go "racing" or "mideval" or "equestrian" but brainstorming is good good goooooooood thank you thank you thank you so much guys. Keep 'em coming if anybody else has 2 cents.

I've found some amazing imagery thanks to this little session so I'm excited. I really got to appreciate the whole horse thing as I was researching this this afternoon, what a fun project.

LOL @ Kool. Horses can be quite 'mischievous', huh?
I had one toss me over a gate during a show once. She refused it 3 times and dropped me out of the show. And I know she could easily take it cuz she took me over a 5 foot fence once at full throttle. =8O
But it sounds like you're onto a more western than dressage/hunt client so

Arabs are known for the shape of their ears and the way they hold their head and tail. Andilusians are huge but they are known to be "regal". Try looking up Morgans also. Tennessee walkers. If you want that prance.
Or for western try a saddle, bosel, saddle pad, or bale of straw( prettier than hay) or a campfire with cowboys sitting around.
Arabs make great barrel racers cause they're quick and, uh (stupid thursday) not clumsy. :confused: Agile and they can take alot of abuse but are also high strung. Try for an appealing image of a horse paint or pinto or paintabian. (paint colors, arab looks and attitude)

I love riding horses, but I often wondered why such a large animal would have legs like pipe cleaners, almost seems like a cruel joke. When I think of A logo for something to do with horses I think of maybe a circular type of logo with maybe a saddle and a horses head incorporated into it or maybe the name in like a branding iron kind of type. I have seen some really cool logos having to do with horses. They are beautiful animals. My sister inlaw has a horse which she can't ride (a long story for another thread) but her husband was lamenting about the hole he would have to dig to bury their German Sheppard which passed away, I said wait 'till the horse croaks.

Well this isn't a logo. It's what I call a "branding image" - it will be used as a header/title graphic on a website. I've got a pretty small space to work with (about 420x200), but I can use photos and photoshop tricks and all the stuff you can't do in a normal logo project.
Maybe I should be looking at horse logos along with this other horse imagery though. Any you can think of off hand that you really like?

Yeah see, I figured that horse fans would prefer to see a photographic treatment than an illustration (which was where I went first, but then I realized I wasn't feeling it and came here, good thing). Yup. Greyghost was online last night THANK GOD because part of my problem is I couldn't tell one horse breed apart from another. She helped me as I shot her google images (where were you yesterday jeizz? lol) and then told me what to be looking for. I went from panic to "Oh man this is cool, horses rock!" lol
Last night I bought some amazing photos of arabians. I'll shoot you a pm (or anybody that's interested heehee) when I've made some progress if you want? My client is pretty touchy about stuff so I probably can't post anything here until the whole project is done (which will be late july, this is just one of six sites/brands in total).

That's great. I would love to see the finished product. I am a huge horse fan. I had one of my own (Mother-in-law's) and also worked in a barn with Morgan show-horses and helped train a group of fillies. Horses are great as long as they are trained well and treated right.
