I'll make one thing clear before i ask this question, I have built a couple of websites via Dreamweaver but I'm not that versed in this area. I'm a Graphic Designer(print) first, foremost and not a Web designer.

A friend has asked me to help her build a website that she can update easily. She's a musician, so the site will contain music, videos, photos and she will also be posting regular updates. Someone recommended Macromedia's (OOPS!) ADOBE's "contribute" application and then others have mentioned something called "Rails". I have never used either so I don't know which way to go. The other thing is that I'm on a Mac and she's on Windows. In any case, if anyone has any suggestions, tips or past experience with something similar, I would greatly appreciate some feedback. Thanks!!!

Simplest way would probably be to use contribute

http://www.adobe.com/products/contribute/ - of course you have to pay for it

or Expresion Engine core is free for non commercial use, but will involve some html and css knowledge.

Or check out http://www.opensourcecms.com/

Chris, you familiar with XMLnotepad? They had it where I went to IT school, it's for editing XML docs without messing with the node tree itself. But a well-formed html doc should be compatible with it, I would think. Might be a really cheap way for clients to edit the content without messing with the markup

Nice! I'm not familiar with that but it sounds great. I'll check it out - cheers

the reason for learning CSS is right here. You could pretty much use any opensource or commercial CMS if you can control the design with CSS. (Content & Design = Separate)

Contribute is probably the way to go if you're a dreamweaver dude exclusively. Or hire a coder to wrap your design around a CMS.
