After a very bland mental block, I finally came up with a concept for a new real estate company. I have attached the logo and the stationary.

Smart Valley Properties is a company that offers residential as well as commercial sites. They wish to convery an attitude of experience, professionalism, and kind courtesy. They even offer free consultation.

I designed the logo to be deceptively simple. I didn't want the logo to confuse the audience into thinking they sell only residential properties (ne Century 21's logo) but commercial properties, also. Note on the back of the business card and letterhead has variations of the logo for many diffferent applications.

Please offer your opinions/suggestions/criticisms. I appreciate them all.

Also...can anyone suggest some good paper stock?

although i like your idea of keeping it simple and general, it reminds me too much of a stock market logo. i know that it serves a 2-fold purpose, 1) to represent a broad range of real estate not just residential and 2) to represent the valley/mountain theme. if not the last, that's definitely the second thing that came to mind.

also, i'm not feeling the text at all. the font choice would work better if it wasn't centered vertically with the letters in caps.

the business card and letterhead stem from the logo, which i don't think is a strong piece, so i would definitely work on some more concepts and sketches to figure out how you can pull it off.

I really like the way you have alternate logos and change the basic logo into those different meanings for residential, commercial etc., I think this really works.

I think the single front logo needs something else, a bit too simple. Could you do something with the 'V' in valley and the actual shape of the valley? Then keep the 4 additional logos as is?

Part of their business is to assist their clients with investments and loans. Definately financial. The business also plays the stock game and consults with his clients about stock investments. Note the third logo variation on the back of the business card.

I felt a little jittery about the font also. He did, however, want to use the abbreviated form (SVP) ascommon reference the his target audience. I suppose that's the only reason I did it. And I may just abandon it...

I do agree with you both that the logo is quite possibly too simple. But, in all honesty...I have no idea what more to add. I've tried several treatments (believe me, I've gone through many thumbnails) like lightbulbs (ne Smart Valley), a sun on the horizon...and found myself going back to square one.

Perhaps you guys can help me. Maybe a symbol that says "smart". Maybe a techie icon or something...

Please suggest! My mind is swimming like a one-eyed fish!

Ooh, tough one. Not crazy about the simplicity (just like you) but I really, really like how you can use the logo for different industries. And I see how it would be tough to reproduce that kind of versatility with a different basic logo, so I'd probably stick with this as well. The only thing I'd change is the font, maybe to a serif font and one that isn't condensed. Just my opinion.
Great job on the versatility! http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/thumbsup.gif

What about using the graphic valley for the 'V' of the word valley? Did you try that?

I do like the versatility of the logo (residential, commercial, etc...); however I do agree with others that I don't much like the font that was selected. I like the overal look and feel of all of the pieces. Great job!
