Unless you know like 3,000 people (which I'm sure those people with 3,000 friends do  ) then I don't really see the big deal. Nice way to keep a group of friends there, and if there's a party or get together it's kinda nice, also a cheap way to post blogs. Also a nice place for employers to see what you're really like, and not hire you because of it (the policing of manners, if you will). I don't know, I posted a few blogs, then deleted them, I don't mess with the design in any way (why? what for?), I totally ripped off Neballer's Jack Black from High Fidelity animated gif and put it on my "About me" section. I haven't met any new person though because of the site, though, and isn't that the point?
Also a great place to get yourself a stalker!

Among my favorite Pratchett Novels are Moving Pictures and Reaper Man. There are so many good ones that it's hard to choose.
I haven't read much of his newest stuff. Any recommendations?

I totally ripped off Neballer's Jack Black from High Fidelity animated gif and put it on my "About me" section.
LOL. raybs, I think I originally took that from somebodies myspace.
I have a MySpace account, which I use occassionally. I keep it professional, and have actually conducted some business through MySpace contacts, but generally any project that starts from myspace flops before it ever begins.
I don't see the hype, but there are some good things about it. If you have a lot of "friends", then you can post bulletins to all of them to notify them of upcoming events. A lot of musicians network through MySpace, so if you have a vested interest in that industry, it is a cesspool.
As far as the 15 and 16 year olds screaming, "I'm an entrepreneur, I've got lots of money, lots of awesome business ideas, and I need your services..." Well, you know where they can go. :)
Oh yeah... My MySpace address is: http://myspace.com/mediamainline
*EDIT: PS, if anybody is intersted in a real, professional networking website, have you ever tried SoFlow? I joined this group when I realized how many "important" people in the media world have accounts on it. It is a rather confusing system, not like any other networking site I've seen, but it seems to have good merits. If you can get into all the groups there, there is a lot of active professional conversation to partake in. http://www.soflow.com

I am on there... I have actually met quite a few new people (two ex-girlfriends) and got back in touch with people I haven't talked to in years. I dont really allow too many strangers to be my friends. I'm not one of those people with 3k friends, just my small group, old school mates and some people from around town I know (small town, everyone knows everyone - cant deny them type of thing)
I share my party pics in blogs... that's the only thing I really use the blog aspect for, then I dont have to worry about getting a copy to this person that person - I just let them take what they want and I'm done.
I know a lot of people hate the site, but I dont get the hatred, you dont like someone or something about it dont visit or use that portion. It's a great way to keep in touch with the people you WANT to, and just ignore the rest!

I joined tribe.net a couple of years ago I think, and just went back to take a look at my tribes and profile (and mail... oops). While my profile is badly neglected, it will give you an idea of a typical template (no tweaking at all on it) and also the kinds of tribes/discussion groups, regional options, job postings, all that good stuff.
http://people.tribe.net/1f7a7d7f-222d-4047-9724-cc3bd435ab7d
You sign on to your region or any region you want (city, country, etc.) and go from there. I think it's a great design, and there's a lot of good information and fun to be had. Now if I only had the time to take a look at all those tribes I joined.
It's based in SF so it has a progressive, creative feel to it.

I am also picky with my friend requests...one of the oddest ones I ever received was from some fifteen year boy. Sorry dude, no Jesus Juice here.
Then there are the "webcam" girls, they are very easy to pick out. To humor one, one time I sent a message back that said "You want to be my friend? What's my name?" No response, naturally.
Then the bands, oh god, the bands....if I wanted to listen to their crappy music, I'd add them myself (there is an option to block them, but it doesn't always work.)

Don't worry about that, Jezzi... It's all about networking. People expect strangers to find their "space" and attempt to contact them if they share similiar interests, especially professional interests. I get lots of requests like that, usually from artists, musicians, and the like.
Usually, you can tell if you're being contacted by "some weirdo", or somebody who has a real professional or special interest purpose behind the request.
So, that all said... Where are those 'sluttly girls' you speak of? :p

Like this--
I like it better when it hurts
or
You make me wanna la la

I'll be a french maid
When I meet you at the door
I want more
You make me wanna scream
If you knew me a bit better, the french maid outfit, screaming and kitchen thing would all make sense!!

^ Another reason why I pulled my name. Search for my name, your search results will be limited. Though I'm sure stumblin' here might do the deed.
I hate that though. "Policing" manners is what I call it. What if employers really knew what we were all like? Fire us all? The big one is what if it's somebody posing as you, but not really you? Do they have proof that it's really you? I could start a profile on myspace right now with my most hated enemy's name on it, and write the most disparaging material, and they wouldn't know any better and employers would think it's him. All you need is to get a picture of that person and some details about them written in the first person. How will employers know the difference? That's why I find this ridiculous.

Everybody (generally likes me). I have no clue why. I guess cause I'm so outspoken and goofy, they like that I am confident (or so they think) enough to say whatever I think, dress however and all that. The truth is I'm still reeling from highschool and don't care what people think. That's the best lesson I have learned in life. Don't give a crap what other people think. For every opinion someone has there are 50 other someones in a 10 mile radius who disagree!

the one thing id say though is that you use Firefox. Explorer doesnt like some of the coding i put in there. Not that im actually a programmer anyways, so my myspace is fairly dull (save the pic in the bg).
My sister originally told me about this site and how it would be good to keep in touch with some friends from HS. Which actually turned out to work. I dont have 3k friends either, about 50, and yes i know all of them.
Morea: As for Terry Pratchett (who also happens to be my second favourite author, paired with Neil Gaiman), one book that he wrote that i really enjoyed was "The truth" and "Interesting times". So far, Interesing times is the one that made me laugh the most. It's hilarious.
"Good omens" is also a jolly good time as Pratchett and Gaiman wrote it. Brilliant.

hmmm i woke up at 7 this morning. after barely 4 and a half hours of sleep. i even had an interview at 10. but then i decided that the interview would be a waste of my time and that i would benefit much greatly from sleeping more. so i went back to bed and got up at 1 :D
yeah Trivium really picked up their stuff. First album was poo. Second was pretty damn good. They're the band of the moment i think....

Thanks for the link Ned, I'm going to go check it out. I'm also a user on computer love (http://www.cpluv.com/) & defrost (http://www.defrost.ca/) both are sites for networking creatives.
I have a myspace account, but I rarely use it. I have hooked up with some old high school friends through myspace, which is pretty neat. I also have an account on hi5 which I rarely use as well.

I joined last week. I write articles once in a while (that have never been published) and she thought I write well  (NOT!)
I'm still apprehensive about blogging there. I find the home page a bit confusing- not enough topic sections am afraid.
So, I've decided I'll just cruise through it for a few months (like I did with GDF) before I blog. Despite my knack for controversey, I'm a Cautious Cat.;)

Everything uses HTML on MySpace, Mo. Albeit MySpace's bastardized form of HTML, HTML nonetheless.
So, if you want to insert images or links into any of your profile description areas, just use <img> or <a> tags, respectively. CSS can also be used for layout. If you're a MySpace geek, and actually have enough spare time to waste in "fixing" your MySpace page. :D

Morea... I remember once when somebody on the HOW Forum found a MySpace group called "Howies Suck!", with these angst-ridden teens posting enless posts of "HOWIES SUCK HOWIES SUCK HOWIES SUCK".
We thought it was somebody who figured they got dissed on the forum, and we were all laughing our a$$es off over it.
Turns out, they were talking about some other "Howies"... :D
It was actually sort of flattering to think it was us. :)

My nickname on there is NOT Exodus. It's a play off of a nickname I got in high school (Pip [My fist name is Phillip...think of the book Great Expectations]) I've been a member for a long time. (Read: Before it got real popular) I'm not on there much anymore. Most of my friends on there are old friends or bands I have seen in concert more than once. Feel free to add me as a friend, but message me and tell me that your on GDF. I'm not one of those people that just add anybody.
Ned, I have just clicked on your GDF group and joined.
Sorry my myspace page looks like crap. I'm not a web designer.
**Edit: Changed background on myspace page.

I heart Great Expectations, Pip!!
In fact, that goes for most of Charles Dickens' writings.
