So the other day I went shopping for something big and sexy to hold my baby. I found this desk (http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4579137?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG) at Fry's Electronics and it looked perfect. It's black. It can hold all my rediculous junk including my stereo that I need to hear proficient metal music blasting at all times.

Although. Five hours later and having to re-do many of the steps because of the instructions that made absolutely no sense unless looked at upside down.. I ended up getting no where. Well. I was close. I just got the legs on and then before I could put it up right they fell right out and left a huge gash (http://static.flickr.com/77/161385158_43ea025a4f.jpg).. Awesome.

So my question is; what kind of computer desk do you have? Any brands you would recommend? Online shopping is out of question, because well.. I'm still illegal and my dad will never trust the internet with his credit card.

Personally, I have mostly Ikea furniture as it's really cheap and pretty decent

Yeah, we have an Ikea here. I might go check that out when I get a chance. It's conviently located waaay across the other side of town. But if I need to make sacrifices for my love, so it shall be.

most computer desks in a kit are crap pressboard. if it's wood, you'll have it forever. I have four desks, the only one that I don't consider disposable is a nice wood gem that I picked up at a garage sale, weighs about 500 pounds.

Yeah, makes sense. Does anyone know of a place that would assemble the desk for me?

not sure where you live or what your budget is, but you could always check a furniture place -- a lot of them will build things custom for you, or provide set up/delivery services.

We all use these:

http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10101&storeId=12&langId=-1&productId=47022

They are the Jerker model from Ikea. I highly suggest them. Strong, smooth, and you can spill anything on them and it won't stain or warp the wood. Comes right off!

Check your yellow pages for used office furniture. I got a pair of bomb proof computer tables that were in excellent condition for $75 for the pair. Each is five feet long.

Couple of milk crates and plywood, and you can make your own.

I went the used office furniture route too. I'd suggest that first. You'll get commercial quality without the new price. They even had my file cabinets re-painted. Quite the deal.
