Does anyone know how to solve this problem? When I print out a newsletter done in Quark, some of the eps graphics that have been imported print out extremely distorted and unrecognizable. I tried opening the problem graphics files in illustrator and resaving them with an opaque background instead of transparent and that seemed to work, but I still need to be able to have images with a transparent background for the design.

yeah the problem you are having is called 'transparencies' im about 99% sure on that. now for the fix.....hmmmmm that might take a while, transparencies are one of the most difficult things in the print industry..... I have 2 suggestions for you, and there both pretty bleak.

1. Open said graphic in Illustrator, and flatten that transparency down, outline it, flatten it, do watever it takes to were you dont have the little yellow warning symbol on your saving screen when you save the file (lower left hand corner, on the pop up window where you choose what version of illustrator you want to save in)

2. And this will work for default printers and stuff, DINGLEBERRIE ive had it work on the big presses but thats cuz im a .pdf god....lol. okay seriosly though, export or save your quark file as a .pdf, choose to embed all fonts, and flatten all transparencies (if there is an option for that) and try printing from your pdf......postscripting is a definite work around.

p.s. dont ever except transparencies again....hehe j/k : )

Sounds like you want Quark to take some kind of image with a transparent background.
Quack doesn't support transparency in placed images. You may need to resort to clipping paths.

Specialization is for insects...
