I saw on the news this morning they got the bastid, it could not have happened to a better guy. Somebody just called up the local radio station and dedicated the song boom, boom out go the lights to him, thought that was pretty funny.

I was wondering who'd be the first to post on this good news. I don't condone war or killing but removing this guy and his loyal troop of axe wielders from the face of the planet is reason for rejoice. And, yes, just when GW needed a shot in the arm.

He is now and forever will be--

It's definitely great news, but I don't see this as much more as a moral boost at most, kind of in the similar vein as capturing Saddam. Some have even said that Zarqawi's image has been purposely exaggerated to help justify the occupation over there. Either way, I really hope that his defeat will scatter the cells up (making them easier to defeat). I think another idiot will simply take his place, though.

I was thinking the same as Patrick.

Lose lose situation really, as he'll now be a martyr to the global jihad.

It's great that he has been taken out, but as Patrick says someone else will step up and takes his place. You can't fight a war against a tatic, and this isn't a situation where if you cut of the serpents head the body will die.

I'd love to be wrong though

Of course there will be. And there'd be another Bin Loser too, if we got him. And if we DID get him, he becomes a figure of martyrdom. But there's no other course except to kill em as the appear.

Al-Qaida in Iraq confirmed the death of its leader in a statement on the internet. It vowed to continue its holy war.

"We want to give you the joyous news of the martyrdom of the mujahed sheik Abu Musab al-Zarqawi," the statement, signed by Abu Abdel-Rahman al-Iraqi, identified as the deputy leader the organisation in Iraq, said.

"The death of our leader is life for us. It will only increase our persistence in continuing holy war so that the word of God will be supreme."

NOOOOOOOO! There's been a terrible mixup! They killed the guy who plays Gimli in Lord of the Rings, and Saula in Raiders of the lost ark, not this Al Zarkowee character. He's still at large! We need to go to burnt umber alert, Zarkowee might be stateside, casing our neighborhoods as we speak!

He'd really get an education if he was. Turn him loose in some of the italian neighborhoods in brooklyn. He'll BEG to be turned over the army.

Here's to hoping that the guy that fills his shoes is a bumbling idiot.

At the same time, they only have so many (effective) guys that they can go through. Even a swarm of cockroaches can all be caused to scatter if you stomp out enough of them.

You can't fight a war against a tatic

I'm not sure what a tatic is, but yes indeed someone else will step up. We're fighting an idea, a belief system, not a person. At this rate it will still go on for years to come

Good analogy because that's very much what this war is like, and just like a war on ants or roaches, you can only hope to control the problem, you can't win it.
