Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here? There is this ugly white "halo" around fills that shows up even when I export the ai file... :mad:

That's called stitching. It's either a monitor artifact (scope in as close as your magnify tool will allow. It should go away.) Or you've knocked out the black too much. If you overlay your red shape onto a solid black shape that stitching will go away. May not be how you want your file set up though - depending on trapping and such.
