Well hi de ho.
rickself is my name and it has nothing to do with a posessive form of the small, gnome like creatures, although my mom was rather short and cunning! I call myself the Prepress Grampa and rightly so. I've been in prepress for 16 years, since 1990, and am grampa to 4 grandsons and 2 grandaughters after marrying in to 4 daughters, plus one that calls us mom and dad.
I began my long adventure as a paperboy. No, really. I accumulated enough points in subscriptions that I picked out a small printing thingy that had a roller that you put ink on and rubber type. By the time I got out of high school, I had 2 Kelsey letterpresses that I did small jobs around the community. Fast forward to 1986, when, after years of programming Commodores and Atari's, I joined my older brother on Kauai to help him launch his publishing empire. It started out as a newsletter on a MacPlus, to what is today one of the larger publishers in the state of Hawaii. My brother is now retiring at the age of 60 and selling his home and property for a cool 1.5 million! I, on the otherhand, opted to come back to Spokane and throw myself into a job as a production artist and then to the wolves and dive headfirst into prepress.
I'm proud of my accomplishments and consider the best dern prepress guy in the area. I, too, recently got married, 3 years ago. Darci had enough guts to take me in and so far, can honestly say we have never had a fight!
We live in a cool, older 3 story, 5 level house, kinda big W laying on its' side. Just the 2 of us, Max the Cat (Hail Max) and a host of around 5 or 6 (currently) ghosts, most of whom do little more than pull pranks, but the occasional physical stuff that makes you go, "Holy SH!T! How can I sleep in this place another day?" I can hear one right now walking above my head in the bedroom, where I am about to retire...but on second thought, might wait a bit!!!
Anyway, GDF has been a great release for frustration and a plethora of information. You can also find me at prepressforums.com and mysticwicks.com, a forum for pagens and the paranormal-ly inclined.
