What on earth is a Drorain?
No it’s not Dr. Orain or any other corruption of that. Drorain Started off as a cat…a furre cat if you know what anthropamorphic art is. Drorain has since existed as a sorcerer, a ranger in EQ, a special agent in video games, and a hunter in WoW. One things is consistent though, he always has…blue hair. Basically Drorain is my cartoon self, created in high school, he’s kind of stuck with me the last ten years. I even have pictures of him…which reminds me it’s been a while since I’ve drawn his portrait, I should hop to that soon. Drorain has also become my online alias in forums.
So what am I, the face or being behind Dro. I am a designer who believes he has little talent, but has found some measure of success working in the field. I think of myself as a beginner even though I hold a BFA in graphic design and have worked in the field for two years. Much as I try to include trends in my design work…it never works out, not to the level of the real trend setters. Oh well, I make a living, my work is on my website www.grivakisgraphics.com. I am working on a new site, but this time I plan on doing it right….laying it out and collaborating with a web-designer to help build it. Yes I’m poor, but I will invest the money and time to pay someone else to do it because I believe that it’s fair to pay someone for hard work. Which brings me to my part in the no-spec crusade….I hate spec work, loathe it…I’m trying to bring myself above the clients expecting it, and above the clients that will pay so little, but it’s hard.
*Some day I’ll share the success stories people have told me about having done spec work and succeeding…but that’s heresey right now so we’ll wait until another day.
I’m a video game nut, a cartoon nut, an anime nut, oh and a right wing nut job. Pro-life, anti affirm action, Bible thumping right wing certified self righteous nut job. But people love me! Oh and then theirs that mushroom thing…
Latest news…writing for an online zine, blogging, launching an amazon storefront soon, and on a quest to teach English in Japan. I also provide knowledge to people about online printers, cause I used to work for one of the a-holes and know the ins and outs of it all from 1 year of being in that environment.
