wouldnt it be great if the channel, TLC would come up with a show based on graphic design?

I see interior design, game design, all kinds of designs, but not graphic design.

would it work out?

I’ve often wondered about that myself. Some projects my team used to work on would make a great week long show. Lots of creativity, laughing, drama, skill, technique and of course the response from the client on the final product.

Maybe one of these days.

I hope they don't. It would empower those that watched it into thinking "I can do this myself". We'd be hearing, "but I watched this episode of 'Trading Mouses' and they made a logo with comic sans!" ;)

Exactly, a show like that would be nothing but trouble for us professionals.

Ever see that show Airport? Where they go to an airport and basically film all the idiots trying to get on their planes... I could see a show about graphic designers dealing with clients along the same line.

How about if it's a reality type of show. Sort of like the show that depicts fasion designers on Bravo. Or Orange County Choppers except it's designers and printers going at it. :)

Or like "Hell's Ketchen".

this would be bad...but it would be reality, especially if they have a 'logo design' by tomorrow type of project...lol, not pulling any lies on the time constraints for projects thats for sure

They should do a Nanny 911 or SuperNanny or whatever the hell that crap is called GD show.

The producers go out and find company's with really bad corporate identity and the show's designers MAKE IT GOOD!!! YAY!!!

I hate reality tv.

speaking of reality tv...has the fab five retired?

I like the TLC home remodel shows, they do inspire me a bit because of how non-traditional some of the interior designers are.

Can you imagine it. Somebody screaming at a bunch of designers hunched over, cringing at their computer screen, designing an annual report for Exxon, do in 24 hours. Then rushing the winning design to "Panic Press" to print in another 24 hours. I'd love it!

i'd rather see makeovers for sleezy companies...like Enron, Polaroid, and such

I've thought about this myself, but I can't imagine how fun it would be to watch people sit at their computers all day.

They should have one called "Spec Idol" where everyone designs something according to each weekly brief, and the clients get to vote off the worst ones. I haven't decided if the winner will win a prize yet.

I can see it now. The winning graphic files go to prepress. The techs discover the files are mostly wrong. Lowres, rgb, no bleeds, cheap fonts, transparency issues etc....Then Brutus the bossman starts yelling at the techs. Been there.

Hi everyone just thought I'd drop a line in
I like the idea of the logo makeover bit I think that show would go on for ever cause so many logo need doing over.

I don't see it working as a show. Interior design has painting and carpentry and moving big ass buses out of the way while shouting out of mega phones. Graphic design has staring at a computer, boring meetings, cursing at Publisher files. Not good television.

I think the closest I've seen is when they designed a new Pepsi bottle on the Apprentice or a billboard on that Hillfiger pile of crap show.

i dunno if it would b that boring. i like the project runway show and technically, all designers do is draw and sit at sewing machines but they made it work.

Not yet. They have a Las Vegas show or something coming up soon
(if not already out). I think those guys should be filmed buying print,
going to the press checks and accepting the finished product.

That would make me smile. :)

I kinda dont want to see this to happen because it would hurt the economy for graphic design. it could spark the design population and would be harder to find a job. and it would make ppl who have a computer and MS paint to think they are automatically designers.

but...with our imagination, it would be a good show to watch!
