I just got some nutter butters and a soda form the market and received a crispy new $2 bill as my change. Are they minting these now or something, what's the point? one piece of paper instead of two?
I do like the wide angle shot of the signing of the decleration of independence though, but Thomas Jefferson looks like a dork on the reverse side.

I have one from a LONG time ago... haven't seen one in years!
(course, I use a debit card for about everything these days.)

Not anymore, we added some color here and there...and why did y'all do away with $1 bills and replace it with a coin, that would bother me.

They do come out with some weird bills, sometimes. I remember when I worked at Wally World a long, long time ago and they sold $2 bills with the Easter Bunny's face on them (legitimate currency). It was supposed to be a gift for children, tagline on the promotional poster reading "so they can spend it on what their little hearts desire."
How effective can that work? If I was ringing someone out and they gave me a bill with the Easter Bunny's face on it, I'd be calling my manager and/or the police.

I'd look and laugh.
I saw a $2 bill once, back in the day.

It's green. I've seen some of the new bills; they're green with a little faded colour ink on them. I think the fifty has a very muted flag in the back doesn't it?

I'm a volunteer for a hot air ballon rally and we sell $2.00 bills to pilots and crew and volunteers to show the local economy the impact the event has. Restaurants & gas stations & such start seeing $2 bills and know where it's coming from. It's to bolster advertising support for the event.

Now, I'm not looking to get Gramps in a ruffle (or his ghosts), but technically the penny is a slang term. It's actually a cent.

So this is what it it's like to be Morea.

You can put pennies in the crank-it machine at the Museum of Science and get an oval flat copper thing with a cute little picture embossed in it. And watch while the machine does it. Most fun I've had with a handful of pennies since penny candy.

OMG, I'm addicted to those machines, and pretty much stand there cranking pennies into every one I can find. They have 'em at the S.D. Zoo and the Wild Animal Park here in S.D.
That is a very interesting, acceptable form of a federal crime. ;)

^lol, I've always wondered about that.
You know what some people used to do in Canada? They would melt down Canadian pennies, and sell them for the copper, which is, or at least was, worth more in its weight in copper than as a penny.
Probably the most common way for any of them to get caught was sloppy melting, leaving some penny impressions in the copper block.

"Use to" are the main words there... the modern Canadian penny is something like 90% steel. They're only copper plated now.
Here, found the composition as of 2004:
Currently: 0.01 (penny): 94% steel, 1.5% nickel, 4.5% copper plating

They have one here at the Toronto Zoo, and it stamps the current feature animal onto it... but the updated it recently. Now instead of just putting in a penny; you have to put it a loonie too. Damn thieves.
