I've never used InDesign and downloaded the demo to see if it was a good fit for me. I wanted to place a logo for a newsletter I do, and was surprised when it placed way too small and uncharacteristically jagged. Are there setting in ID that I may not be savvy about, and does Illy cs1 interact well with ID cs2?

Thanks.

Oh. Forgot to say: OS 10.4.6 on an 867 tower.

Control-click the image>Display Performance>High Quality Display.

That should take care of the low resolution preview, but I'm not sure about the small size...

What format is the logo?
How did you place it?

Also, you don't always want to be working in High res preview. Things can get mighty slow on redraw.

downy I'll check that when I get back to my 'puter, thanks.

PD, I tried .ai and .jpg and used the Place... command on accounta I don't yet know of any other way to do it. Don't know if that's the best way, just familiar due to Illy. Lag issue noted, thanks. I'm always at a very high res and tend to forget why, gee, that's taking a long time to load. D'oh!

Is the image a vector image or a raster image? I usually set my vector image display to high-quality, and my raster image display to proxy (which gives a jaggy appearance). If I need to see the raster image at better quality, say, maybe to position a drop-shadowed object on top, I'll set the display for the specific image to high-quality until I get what I want, and then set it back to proxy for normal edits, etc.

As to the placed file coming in small...is it coming in smaller than the bounding area of the actual image itself?

If it's an .ai vector, try placing it as an eps.
Never use jpg.

I forget the lag thing may be a large format thing too. Setting a background image on a mural on high quality darn sure slows things down, LOL! I recently had to do an illustration that required placing vector objects over a full 7'x10' mural image in InD. Low-res preview blur-shifted everything just enough that I had to work in high res for most of the project. I was overbudget on time by one full day because of that.
