Any of you experienced prepressies out there enlighten me on this one? I'll attempt the Readers' Digest version. 8xA5 pages (col), coming into PREPS to impose into 8pp work&turn. Discover a problem with a new page; a looks-OK PDF, but out of Corel Draw. Exercise latest party trick; place in InDes CS2 and print a PostScript file. Distill...looks nice. Still the same PS error message, (the message is when I'm printing out the imposed file, not when I'm bringing them in).
Weird thing is, could split the pages into 4s and successfully print different combos by shuffling the Run List in a trial and error sorta way. i.e. ALL pages DO print in PREPS! But when I try the proper 8up impo...'invalidrestore error', (my PostScript reference manual gives me a programmers explanation of the error, but no help to me, just tantalising clues).
Have tried dumping all...dot.job file, all dot.psi files etc..
We're on PREPS 5.1.2 (it'd PS 3). 6 of the 8 pages are repeat and have gone through PREPS before. Aaargh!...the other new page was an Illy file, which I also took into InDes and exported out to PDF. No wonder there are still skilled jobs in prepress. I'm having another bash tomorrow (Sat AM in Land of OZ); knowing the PostScript environment it'll probably work. Oh, yes, I did restart everything, too.

Guess that's why we make the big bucks!
(or why our hair is prematurely gray/falling out/gone)!
It sounds like you're done most of the work-arounds.
For the Corel file, do you HAVE corel to open the file (probably not).
It really could be an Illy problem if that's what's also been introduced.
So you've converted all type to paths, gone thru all the colors, saved Illy back to legacy eps, removed any hidden layers, checked any psd files put into illy (I know, yer going yep, yep, did that).
Have you tried this. Use blank pages in the Preps file in place of the questionable file, take the.m99 or m00 file and distill it, put that back into Indy. Now put your Illy and Corel files in position on the Indy file and bypass Preps.
How about using a different template in Preps. Maybe the color bar or one of the sheet marks went corrupt.
It's one of those things that you WILL get it, just aggrevating as hell til you do. Good luck, keep me posted. I feel your pain!
And don't believe what Preps says about PS3, Preps isn't.
If all else fails, try Prepressforums.com. Jimking and I are both there daily and they have a section just for Preps.

Like Rick said send your 8page w/t with a blank page were the corel page is to see if it rips without it. Do the same with the Illy file. Because it could be the 8 page template itself. However my hunch it's the corel file. What was the format of the supplied corel file? Was it a .cdr or an .eps?

Thanks guys. You're right about the pain. As I suspected, it could be one of a number of Postsripty things, corruption etc. When I checked out the newly supplied PDF in Doc Properties (I'm on Acro 7 Pro), it gave its origin as Corel Draw. It was only that that made me treat it with due suspicion; fair or unfair.
I'm really guessin' it's, as you say might be possible, a corruption in the template. Hey, why don't I construct a new template of my own this morning and use that, (for practice). The fact that both files printed in 4pp combos seems to point to good old PREPS. As you said in an earlier post; it's a good program, but could be great. I stand corrected on the Level 2 thing. Don't believe everything you read, huh?
While I'm on the topic, if we ever go to CTP (big IF), would you guys go for getting Dynastrip with the workflow (Fuji Celebrant in this case), or another cross-grade to 2nd PREPS dongle. I want a 2nd impo dongle for internal political purposes, (don't ask). I've been told it takes in PDFs only. After last night's thing PREPS/Postscript thing maybe that's good. (I know, it's only a database/stripped down PostScript, but it sure works a lot of the time). Oh, have been digging deep into PitStop. Wow, that's fun. I suspect I'm becoming PitStop mechanic in the room, (there's just 2 of us).
I think I've got a login for Prepress Forums. Shall get one if I haven't.
Off topic, nearly made it to Spokane in '97. Wanted to get a Dobro at some famous big guitar shop there. Maybe one day.
Thanks again.

WOW, 2 of you! That's TWICE as many in my department!
And I just realized I'm the lowest paid Digital Prepress guy in town! Go figure. Time to have a talk!

Yeah, I know. I fantasise about being alone. It may happen one day. Either that or I'm out and back to a previous life. Can't give too much away lest I blow my cover.
Best now get my derriere up there; printers are working today, so some light conversation as well. Shall now copy and paste your replies to my prepress email and launch out on a chilly Southerm Hemi morning. If I meet success you'll be posted. If I don't you'll just hear the Primal Screams.

Whew!...It was, of course, "None of the Above". It was a previously used colour ad which I had accessed from my colleague's mac. Might have chosen the wrong one, or it's become corrupted. Found the original (PDF), took it into InDes and printed out a .ps to be safe. Bingo...The funny thing is, it was the same ad that I was bragging about in a previous post (morphing the car etc.) 'cept this was the original "proper" sized one. Points taken as follows:
-all braggards get their come uppance

(bumped a key there and auto-posted prematurely).
-PostScript was invented to to test strength of mind (not saying I qualify
-there is no substitute for living through this stuff, I'm guessing
