Displacements in CS2

Is there a reason why in Photoshop CS2 I can only apply a displacement map from an image from the desktop? I can't do it from one in a subfolder or the same folder as the current PSD, instead I have to copy it to the desktop and select it from there, that's the only way it can work. This doesn't make sense.

You Using a PC Reuber? I have no problem in applying a displacement from a file anywhere on the HD here (Mac).

Thanks Teej. Unfortunately, it's on a PC at my old college. I only have access to one machine there, so I'm going to double check to see if I can access another one though. It's weird though, because nothing happens at all, though I can click the file after setting the pixel dimensions. Once I click Open though, nothin'.
