in the font size in Indesign sometime there is 2 different sizes. one is in brackets. eg
14pt (8.45pt)
what dows this mean?

It usually means you resized the type.

This happens to me when I have a text box that is grouped with another object and then the group is re-sized. Even if you ungroup and then edit the text it will still retain the scale info in the text box. (If I highlight the font size, including the numbers in parentheses, and change to say 12pt it still may say 6 in the parentheses.) If it really annoys you, I just delete the text box and make new.

There is something you can turn on (or off) that fixes this. As soon as I remember what it was, I'll post back. My InD doesn't do the double sizes.

Yes, it's a result of scaling a group, then ungrouping. You shut it off via the Transform palette's LBT (little black triangle) and it's called, Scale Text Attribute.
