I'm pretty new to this, and am wondering if anyone can recommend an intelligent introductory book about prepress.
I'm thinking Production for Graphic Designers by Alan Pipes or Graphic Designer's Digital Printing and Prepress Handbookby Constance Sidles.
Can anyone recommend one of these above the other? Or any other must-reads?
Many thanks,

Don't know either of them but looking through the TOC on Amazon, the Pipes book seems to focus on press type printing and is kinda $$$.
The Sidles book TOC looks like it has a grip on both digital and what I call plate type printing but not sure it covers the large stuff. It may be more of a 'fluff' type book but anyone who takes a whole chapter to explain how to get and use professional fonts in design is alright by me. Hate fonts. 'Specially freeware.
Check out our resource section too. Kool has posted an excellent Pre-press how-to. Also check out www.prepressure.com
PrintDriver is a large format digital print dude. His advice/opinions may not apply to the 4color/offset/web world of printing
Thanks for the help. I'm going to give the Pipes book a go. Over here in the UK it's about a third of the price it is in the US, so the $$$ factor isn't too bad.
Thanks too for the heads up re the resources section and prepressure.com -- gems both of them.
