Dissertation topics

hi everyone,

i am writing a graphic design dissertation after summer, and i have no idea what topic to write it on. i am asking for some inspiration from you all, so i can figure out what to write about. for some reason deciding my own topic is always really hard for me to do. so if you could just throw some interesting titles/topics this way i would greatly appreciate it.

I'm big into usibility in web and print design. Yes print! The way we gather information is mostly dependent on how its presented and interepret it. How about a paper on this?

sorry to barge on.. but im confused too.. have a topic i have to think abt in less than a week... im intersted in GRAPHic design, photography and advertsing...
anything u can think to merge all the above.. ?

I think an exploration into the influence that graphic design has on pop culture and consumerism would interesting. I used to work for a newspaper and had to create ads very quickly for a lot of different products. I started to feel guilty trying to persuade people to pay $150 for shoes that I knew costs about $5 to make. For products such as these, we generally attempt to appeal to something in the person that is not entirely rational whether that be their self esteem or some other area where there exists a vulnerability. A graphic designers position at the forefront of the battle to sell puts us in a real position of responsibility. I think that position leads to a need to have your own line drawn in the sand that you refuse to cross. I know some people refuse to do anything that has anything to do with cigarettes, etc. You get the idea.

Funny how they never come back, these dissertation writers. Quite frankly, if I were a dissertation instructor I'd be bored to tears by now as everyone seems to write about the same <easy> things.
