Hi,

Can anybody tell me the Pantone colour for silver and wether there's any problems i might encounter using metallic pantones in my designs? Im doing some record sleeve artwork in Quark.

Thanks

YDR.

ps; is it standard that most printshops can print metallic pantones?

Hey YDR
Check with the printer. Metallic is a 5th color and many shops cannot do a 5th color. There are a lot of things to consider when using Metallics, such as the color beneath the silver, using wax free inks, trapping. These are all things you really (stress REALLY) need to talk to your printer about.

If you don't have a printer yet, call around and find one that will do the metallic. When you find that printer, get to know the prepress guy, NOT the salesman or pressman. If the prepress tech can't help, go on to the next on your list.

Use your Pantone Metallic Coated palette to find your silver color...I'm partial to 877.

I use pms 877 for silver too.

Be careful what you are printing on... pantone metallics have actual metal flakes in them, and if you are printing a letterhead or something that will bed fed through a laser printer, the heat from the laser can (supposedly) make the metal flakes spark.

There are laser safe metallics, too... so if in doubt, use those.
