First off, hi!

I graduated last Dec w/ BFA in Graphic Design from Georgia Southern University. All I have is student work that looks like 'student' work so I'm trying to make a new portfolio w/ dummy sample work and stuff I make up. I barely know how to do web stuff but I'm tryin to learn ( so of course I don't have a web portfolio). i am afraid that I have a degree that I won't be able to use because I didn't get any internships for experience (though I know I should have!) and now I dont know what to do to get up and running?

Any constructive help would be awsome! Thanx

try to get involved with as many projects as you can. things your interested in and want to contribute to. it's nice at an interview when they ask what you're up to if you can rattle off three or four design projects. make it a hobby until you get full-time work. whatever you do, don't work for free! you can always get something out of it. for example i do local party/show fliers on the side for a promoter i know and he gets me in for free.

I'm not a real graphic designer, but I do play one on tv

BEELEEE!! GET IN DA CHOPPAAAAHHH!!!!

Hi, Crebo, and welcome to the GDF! Congrats on graduating. :) You could also try finding work with the help of a temp/placement agency. Where I used to work, I used to get promo email from a company called The Creative Group (www.creativegroup.com (http://www.creativegroup.com)) all the time and they sometimes had fresh grads in their list of featured artists.
For sample work, you could do fun stuff you enjoy like design a CD/album cover and poster for your favorite band or create a brochure for your favorite amusement park. You could also check out the Contests forum here and join in with your own work. Win or not, you'll end up with something you could add to your portfolio.

RIGHT YOU ARE, KEN!

hey Crebo.. first of all many congrates on graduation.. Secondly don't confused at all. Go for an Internship at this stage you must have alot of knowledge but lake of professional Exparience which you can get while sitting in Market. So to be honest you should first start internetship instead of something else or keep thinking so long :) best of luck :)
