Hi everyone! Haven't posted anything in a couple weeks now I think...but here's something I would like a second opinion on. This is one of four shirt designs for a small record label. This particular design is for women. It's trendy I know, but what I wanted feedback on was the composition of the design. Something about it doesn't quite look right, but I've been looking at it so long that I can't pinpoint what it is. Please help!!

Thanks

It is trendy looking, I've never been a fan of the heavily layered graphics with stuff splattered all over the place look but this design is attractive. Because your artwork is so striking already, you don't need to rely on the obvious off-center placement to make any statement, I would just place in the traditional center high up in the chest area. Another thing I notice is that because you have the white ink dripping down, you might want to keep this artwork at an upright position, because paint doesn't drip down to the right, it's supposed to go straight down. I do like the design though, but I'm usually not a fan of this style because most of the time, this style lacks concept and relies on pure visual trickery.

I think this design looks great and would look perfect for a record label because kids out there are always trying to prove to people they are not trying to be trendy but the thing is the design the looks and the placement on the shirt is going to make it sell even more than if it was in front center i promise you that...! Some people may not like it on the side but thats just what sells so i like the placment and the design, im sorry its not much help but i've been doing my bands shirts for awhile and been in the hardcore music scene and i just see what people like to buy and this is the stuff.

This is a perfectly fine design and placement. If I had to pick a flaw, it'd be the drips going off the the side. Sure, it absolutely doesn't matter what real life drips do, but my mind just wants to see them going down. But then again, I've seen a lot of drips on shirt designs lately that they are getting to me. But that's just my opinion because I design shirts for a living.

But in all honesty, it's good to go. Does the label like it? That's what really matters.

It's a relatively strong image.

You could go with guyinsf's suggestion of turning the image upright or just turn the dripping paint effect to drip downwards and keep everything else askew.

Allow me to suggest you keep the placement as is on the side. there's something sexy about it sitting on the curve of the waist.

That is actually a great suggestion by Samakimoto, have the paint drip downward, not slanted like you have it now but keep the other elements slanted. That might be difficult but worth a try. Now that I think about it, maybe you should keep the whole thing on the side by the waist, it makes it look like your inner guts are exploding out or something like that.

I'm not tired of the off center positioning on the t-shirt just yet. I really like that, most of my t-shirts (the ones that I wear, I mean) still have things positioned dead center, chest and/or back.

I like your design, although I agree about the paint drips. Your visual is very strong, I think, I'd keep it positioned on the shirt where you show it.

I think the composition of the design is working great. All the elements are balenced well, color, movement, weight, for me its all working. The only part that looks "wrong" to me is the one curved line that comes infront the the gear. That gear with the logo on it seems to be infront of everything except that one curved blue line to the left of the "a".

As far as the positioning on the shirt, I love it!, but will the printer? Isn't that where the seem of the shirt is? Will it cost extra for the odd position and if the seem is there will it distort the image?

Nice work!

And I suggest that when this is printed, they use waterbased inks and don't make a giant plasticky thick print. Those are very annoying to wear, especially on the side of the shirt. It feels all heavy. Especially when you have a big graphic.

thanks on all the feedback guys. the drips off to the side had caught my eye too, and i was going to change it and overlooked it! Thanks for bringing it up. I'll take into consideration all your suggestions when tweaking it this afternoon.

The printer i'm printing with prints on these type of areas. That's why I like them so much, and they don't rack up the price because of it either. I've printed with them before :

once again, thanks guys on the feedback =)

I really like it. This is a style I love, but can't seem to figure it out or duplicate it...controlled mess. The drips are all I can suggest as well, but the rest looks really good. Who is your printer, btw, if you don't mind my asking? I'm needing to find sourcing for shirts as well.

Yeah, i've been having trouble finding a printer in the DC are that prints on those areas. I guess that's the downside to living in a conservative area.

The design looks pretty sound, actually. I don't think I can complain. Not really for me, but I'm a guy. A flamingly heterosexual guy.
