Ok, experienced printers: You guys know print color better than anyone.

Could I get away with using these colors on top of eachother without killing the eye?

the bluish purple is 100c 95m 0y 6k

the orangish red is 0c 85m 100y 0k

Its gonna be printed on newsprint. Its a full page 11.5"x21" newspaper ad, and the part with the two colors overlapping will be about 5 inches.

Think I can pull it off?

I would think it would work, I don't do much newspaper stuff so I don't know if that would be an issue but I wouldn't think so. For offset and silkscreening I have seen this done a number of times.

Personally, I think you can get away with it just fine. It's only a small section of an entire ad. If it were larger or had more going on there... well, then I might say otherwise. The other thing to remember is that it will be printed on newsprint and that will mute it some. There is be some trapping there, but depending on the quality of the printer it may not even be noticable.

Cheers,
Al

I thought printing on newsprint would help to get away with it.

Thanks dudes!

Definitely make sure you use a trap at the overlap of colors or they will get muddy. But I would think any printer worth his salt would correct that for you or at least notify you so you can correct it.

Yeah you are right, although, this is a big newspaper (Sacramento bee) so I think I'll be doin it myself cause they might not have time. Thanks again!

I think it'll look great on newsprint. Can you let us know how it turns out?

I think it should work fine. The imagry is simple enough that even if there is mis registration you'll still get the picture. Your text is reversed out, so that's in your favor, and the slab and sans serifs will still read alright if any registration chokes them in a bit. I'd give the paper a call and ask if you should trap it yourself. After it goes to print you should scan the page and upload it so we can see how it turned out.
