I may be part of a small project that will slowly eat away at the axis of evil (rogers, bell, telus). Here's a sample logo:

Don't forget Primus :D
This is a logo? It's just the telephone shape from photoshop with bad typography next to it. You definately need to develope some ideas (beyond a telephone) for this one.
you need some design books.
The above is not meant to be an attack just advice.
Since, your in highschool I would advice focusing more on drawing then anything. If you plan on going to college to be quite hinest no one cares whether or not you can do graphic design. Since, thats what your going there to learn anyway.
Administrators are more worried about your capabilites to draw then anything else.
If your not planning on going to college then I suggest books galour. Think basic design, color and typography at first. then move on to more advanced topic of applying it to a communication- graphic design.
Graphic design is about alot more then knowing the software or how to make something look "cool". So just remember that.
Its good that you are playing around with the software and all but, in all sense of the matter that is not what defines graphic design.
As for a logo, its not logo its a sign again. You need to get some books or look around in some people's portfolio(s) on here to learn what a logo actually entiles.
You may say to me… well there were certain parameters in the brief but, the fact of the matter is that regardless of what you tell me if I see that in a portfolio I am going to think what I think about it based on the fundemental rules of the format in association.
If you must include those little details in the logo then look around online and find ways in which to it that make the design still work as a logo rather then appear as sign. Have you looked at logomotives? Jeff has some execellent examples of logos that go above and beyond the ordinary.
The only advice as per the communication I am going to offer you is sketch, sketch, sketch. It truly is the way the most creative ideas some out. You could even play word games. I mean never limit yourself based on the name of the business in association. Start off with things that are associated to business and name then venture off based on what you come up with/find. The best ideas are the ones that offer a unique form of logic then one's that present the "obvious".
That brings me to one more point which I will expand. The idea. Everything revolves around a idea. You must get an idea before you can apply that idea in a communitive sense to something visual. So get an idea to sell the name before you start to work on the composition. Then once you arrive at some ideas by which to sell the brand then start working on how to apply them to the composition of the logo to communciate and drive the entire design/brand.
good luck

TZ summed it up best. You need to know a bit more about graphic design. There are a multitude of professionals on this site who can be a help, but doing some research on your own and reading will help a great deal. The things I have seen so far look like Yellow Page ads. That is not meant to be harsh, just constructive criticism. Review some other works like you are trying to create and see what some other designers have done.
Keep plugging away at it, but don't get cocky. I have been a graphic designer for over 20 years and everyday I learn something new. If I didn't I would be bored.
Good luck!
