OK, we roll a little different here. The software company I work for develops a point of sale system mainly for music and bike retailers across the nation, and some stores in Canada as well. Coming up this weekend is the summer '06 NAMM show (National Association of Music Merchants) that management is going to (as well as a bunch of our client stores...which means hopefully a slow Friday :D ).

Now, they're taking along a bunch of folders as handouts and they want on these folders (which are plain white, matte) stickers with the company info, booth number, and logos for our company, our software, and our web package that interfaces with our software. Below is said sticker. It is to be oriented vertically (as shown) and off to the right of the folder (if you split the front of the folder in two vertical halves, it covers the middle 3.6666666 inches of the right half, leaving a decent amount of space to the right still. Sorry I have no pics of the folder). The white border is intentional. We are printing 3 of these to a sheet of some cheap label paper, and our printer doesn't support bleeds, but I think it's a nice touch anyway. I would ideally love a glossy finish, but unfortunately it's just sort of "blah." So I've already test printed, and they're satisfied with the quality of the printout. I'm just wondering how it's looking or what everyone might do different.

The logos on the right are already set. Nothing I can do about those. So no, they're not up for redesign. Also, the colors for the backdrop are there because the banner that was designed by an in-town agency has that exact same effect and same colors.

Also, this is my first showcase thread ever. Break out the beer.

Pretty slick reuber... congrates on your first showcase too :D

Only comment is the BOOTH kind of overpowers the 360, not sure why; maybe the 360 is too narrow. Oh well... still looks good.

Thanks mac, I see it too. I might fix that up in my own time.

I just showed them and they approve, so at this point it's more of just an advice thing. Nothing really pressing. I would like to get this baby in my folio though. ;)

Looks good Reubs. I dig the white text along the edge. I wonder if the three logos could better arranged? If the bosses like it, then it's already a success.

The arrangement...like the order? 1st 2nd 3rd? That's intentional. First one is the company, second is the software, and the third is the web utility we've been driving. That's kind of how they want it, I'm afraid.

Looks good, grats on your first portfolio entry! I need to stop being lazy and post some of my work..

Well, I've had a couple of folio entries, but this is my first "real world" one though. Thanks though! :D

This would have been an awesome start to a tri-fold design, I just realized. Since it's 8.5 long and 1/3 of 11" (3.6667")....actually, I just may modify it for that purpose for my portfolio! Looks better than "Folder sticky thingy" in the brief. Good idea reuber! Thanks reuber.

You did a great job Reuber. Definitely 'folio material if you tweak it a little.

Thanks for the comments everyone! I appreciate it. I've been scared to death of posting here.

Samakimoto, I'll be honest, the background isn't originally mine, no, I didn't steal it. They have that graphic here for damn near every little word advertisement they use...I made some proper use of it this time. And if I had to recreate it myself, which I might do for the tri-fold revamp, I easily could; just use some colorized photoshop brushes and sharpen it and increase the contrast a bit, add some white lines, motion blur it, etc. Oddly, I wound up scaling it much taller than it is, and suprisingly it still looks pretty good without too much distortion. The printouts look damn good still. Kinda has a NIN "The Fragile" package-design look (if you have the CD, you know what I mean). Actually, I did make my own version, but it was a quick mockup and not really as great looking and I wasn't aware that they had the original graphic still (in jpg format, unfortunately... ...oh well, it worked).

Just a quick nitpicky thing i noticed: on the left hand side, in your abreviation of 2006 as ’06, you've got an open single quotation mark instead of the appropriate apostrophe. Use option shift ] to get the right punctuation. Yes, i know i'm a typography nerd.

Nothing wrong with being a typo nerd, I was wondering if that was the proper use or not. I'll make sure to change that for sure. Thanks for the pointer.

Yeah, now that you mention it I can see that might be tough to read. Down the road when I fix it, I may break it up so that SUMMER is in the green and NAMM '06 is in the purple. Spaces it out a bit better.
