Hey guys;

I have been asked by a friend to create some logo artwork for a youth soccer tournament. This logo will be used on T-Shirts, the web site, and a banner. I have created the artwork in Illustrator. For the banner, do I actually need to create the document to be the size of the banner desired? So, in effect, I would need to send him three different sized documents (for t-shirt, web site, and banner)?

I have placed the logo artwork below if you guys would like to take a look at it (and give feedback, if you so choose). Don't worry about the text...it was just filler.

Thanks,

You'll want to do a separate file for each at size unless your artwork is dimensionally scalable.

For example the artwork you show above, is that the shape of the banner you want or do you need more negative space around the logo top and bottom? Is your artwork scalable in inches so you can say "output at 1200%" or something to that effect to get your banner size?

Remember too that there are hem returns on a banner. You want to keep your text away from hems, grommets and pole pockets. Ie your text is too close to the top and bottom of your file as shown. Running stitching through text is not usually cool.

swoosh…

purpose?

A logo is all about the name. So having filler typography isn't helping either.

I would suggest a pencil and paper.

This looks like clip art to be totally honest.

Clip art without a function and or purpose relating to what it represents.

Reminds me off nike if anything not a youth group.

Is the youth group sponsored by nike or something???

This is a case of back to the drawing boards.

ohhh… I thought this was a critique??

Well here's the thing about "back to the drawing board": I'm doing this as a favor, on short notice, and with little time. Not to mention, for free. So I'm not really concerned with it looking like clipart.

The reason I said ignore the text is because I wanted you to do just that: ignore it. It's not going to be there. I was just screwing around when I first started. The name of the tournament is "Futbol Club of Santa Rosa Labor Day Classic".

It does look like a Nike sponsored event with a swoosh like that. Possibly remove it or distort it enough that it won't look like the Nike symbol.

For a quick and dirty logo for a sporting event this can work. There is some fight in the player and the swooshes. You could move the swooshes down and make them smaller (after changing the look of them) and give the player some motion. Will this be on White shirts? That would be a key factor for me. On a red or blue you'll lose the logo.

Have fun with it and your friend should be happy you are helping he/she out.

Enjoy!

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. I'll see what I can do with the swoosh.

and give the player some motion.

That is an excellent idea!

Yes, the design will be on white shirts.

Thanks very much for your response!! Very helpful!

Although this is the printing/pre-press forum, I have to agree, that the first thing I thought of was the Nike logo.
