I dont like the new forum either....main reason....people, and im sick of the negativity around here.......im not looking forward to 1000 posts either......oh and another thing....if I post something and dont ask for c & c, then I expect people to keep there big mouths shut....sit back....and enjoy the damn things. ugghhhhh, im just frustrated, all of my forums I visit online are going to crap quicker then adobe coming out with another upgrade.

I find post quicker then I used to. The only thing I don't like are the colors.

Take a look at your post for the naked bean flyer, You didn't ask for feedback in your first post and after no comments were made you were looking for feedback!
and I think that your entire post here is negative. What is up with that.

yeah well i was frustrated mickey cuz i thought it was a funny idea/theme...i was just expecting for people to maybe find the humor in it maybe even post something funny or usefull, not to tear the DINGLEBERRIE out of it cuz its low res....hello www!!!..... i was going to post in the showcase last nite (a digital cubist self portrait) but even after I had it linked and everything I realized the images were a little blurry....so i deleted it.....its nit picking like that, that makes me not want to post...yes I know its low res...and yes...I realize I am working on the internet. it came across negative because that is the emotion I am trying to put out to the fellow gdfers....that i wasnt happy about it.....now if people want me to leave or something because im not happy with how the site is going...then fine I will, this was a very happy up beat place for me when i first got here.....im just frustrated is all. and i dont want to make anyone mad by me being unhappy with comments or anything....so im just not going to post as much. resume daily lives......//end line//.
p.s. im also not trying to be a complete ******* here, but it does seem like alot of the regulars kinda dissapeared around here, maybe im just going through withdrawls of the old site, maybe the moon is off a slight bit and my mind is floating, maybe trees do make a sound in the woods when they fall and no one is around to hear it.

Don't worry D-frag I was just pointing out the obvious to set you back a notch or two so you didn't go off on some rant that really won't help anyway. I know that I have slowed my posting as well I just haven't seen as many upbeat and sincere design posts lately. I still think that this a usfull forum but with the transition in look also came a transition in attitude I have noticed. Don't know why. I wish we had the old 'simple' forum back but we don't. So as fare as this forum is concerned in the way it looks I am still only fed up with the smilies, as for the posts and such WELL....
I hope we can get back to more about what this forum is all about. Time will tell.

D-frag, I noticed it too.
There are a lot of newbies, people who don't care about design, people who care too much, people who don't do searches or RTFM before asking the same question for the 8th time and everyone has their own opinion about art. There is always gonna be something someone doesn't like about something and I been as guilty as the rest. That's why I mentioned in some thread or other that I am not offering any more opinions on artwork. If some designer wants to do logos in Photoshop, fine by me now. I'll print em a sign if they ever go on to something other than letterhead or web banners. If I have time I will answer the questions I feel like answering, mainly cuz I like puzzles. But even that may stop eventually. This place was fun but all things wax and wane perhaps to wax again someday.
I'm taking the time to answer you, man. So I guess we're both *******s?

yes fellow gdf *******s...hehe, well i for one am still trying to respond to people who consider doing logos in ps, i do see alot of noobs around, heres an idea....it seemed that before people joined and starting posting most of the time they said that they had been hanging around for weeks reading and checking it out before introducing themselves. Maybe back then we had that stigma about us, you know like people said 'Whoah, these people really got there DINGLEBERRIE together, ill probably look like a fool if I join and post a logo done in ps' and so that filtered out alot of the proffessionals from the 'at home' designers. Maybe now we are posting stuff (mine as an example) that is not up to par, hence we are drawing that kind of crowd....DINGLEBERRIE for all I know I could be responsible with my posts....

Hey I know I've been nit picking alot latley but to tell the truth I always appreciated TallMikeG cause he was honest with the critique and I felt like yea I need to look for things that might hinder the design as wel as he has done with me in the past. You see back in the spring of 2003 it was mainly TallMikeG, Kool, Magnus, Defjoe, Case and I think Madora was around then too. I used to love the way Mike and Case tore up my designs and I believe it really made me into a better artist.
I meant no offense of the things I said, maybe they seem cocky to you but I hear the same thing when I post artwork like your fonts are spaced to much, the colors suck etc. I don't mind the critique as long as I know it's constructive.
I still enjoy this board alot. I miss TallMikeG and Cases input alot. But I consider you all new to this board just not newbies. I appreciate all the feedback I get from all of you and I feel you guys always help me out when I'm in a crunch. So Thanks everyone that has actually help me in anyway or critiqued my work.
I work alone so this board to me is an asset I canot replace.
D-Frag your a good designer but I feel like you take offense to easily to comments. Try to see the positive in things. Written comunication is hard to interpet sometimes cause of lack of punchuation unlike spoken topics. So just try to see the good alittle harder and you might see that my comments are never flames. I'm sarcastic sometimes and this might be interpited wrong, which I can't blame you for.
So if you feel offended just let me know next time don't just put me out there like that cause we all know I made the low-res comment.

I haven't liked this forum as much recently either. To me, it has had nothing to do with the new look, more the new attitude. I agree with D-frag. It stinks. Most of the veterans here have not been posting...something has definately changed.

We've had some problems on here lately, but it was more in the topics we had I think. I do think you guys are being a little hard tho, I know its been tense in the forum for what ever reason, but I would like to see us loosen up a bit more, I do miss the old forum, mainly because I now realize how much I loved the simple design, I think se should take it easy on eachother as well tho.

Ok, so the GDF got a makeover. Some like it, some don't - change happens no matter what we do. I'm ok with the new board. It has taken me some serious gettin use to but I am totally fine with the new setup and I think Allen worked really hard to get us upgraded. It's an adjustment but not the end of the world :o)
I have definately noticed some negativity that didn't use to be on the board but I don't see it having anything to do with the upgrade. I think that some people have gotten alot more negative in their critiques, cocky even. I have no idea why. I think a good critique consists of showing the artists what you feel are the negative and positives of the piece and why you think that. Not just "I don't like this and I don't like that"...know what I mean? http://graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/nono.gif It is way to easy to get discouraged in this business and if you post something and all you get is negative feedback, then chances are you aren't going to post your work again and it is going to have a negative impact on you. We are here to help one another and use constructive critisism , but 100% negativity about a piece is just....not good. I don't think there is any reason to berude when you say something negative about someones work...just my opinion of course.
There has been less posts lately from alotta the regulars but I think that is just simply because we all have spirts of extremely busy periods of time. I haven't even been able to post like a mad woman like normal thanks to work :o( and all the dealings with trying to buy a house...sometimes you just get soo busy. I have become friends with alotta the regulars and I miss seeing them on the board and reading there hilarious outta the blue comments about whatever but I know that some of them are totally slammed with work or just busy with life itself. I think things will all fall back into place in time.
This has always been an upbeat place (atleast since I have been here)where we can all come and joke together about things that others just wouldn't understand....and its great. Almost like having our own little world that we need to escape too sometimes. So maybe we just all need to figure out what we ourseleves need to work on to get back to the GDF we all love and have become so addicted too!
and D-Frag.....even tho you said you weren't excited.....HAPPY 1K !!!!! LOL! Hell I could't resist that! I think, like D-Z said, we're maxed out either personally or professionally. Or both.
And maybe we all shouldn't be so wrapped up in our post count, huh? What do those numbers mean really? Think about it a bit. We all know who's who and what's what. Respect needs to be earned not counted.
Allen, the new forum is cool. Don't know what all the complaining is about. It took a bit to figure out where to go to make the shortcuts work and posts do seem to vanish on occasion (that is the most irksome thing because this place is about information - as well as fun) but I like the upgrade very much.
I will try to curb my natural irascibility in the future.

Yea happy 1K D-Frag.
Honestly I felt stressed out with the new forum look when it droped. Because of the look and I've been working alot of OT trying to bang out this catalog. It finally went to press and I feel abit comer.
If you guys think my critiques are out of hand please let me know. I also will cut down on my posting because to tell the truth I post more then I should and my work is laggin. I mean how many of you see my website there for you to click on it? Not many. So I'm going to concentrate on working more and talking less.
If I offended any of you I appologize. I always look at things from a continues point of view and if the flow of a piece 'in my eyes' doesn't match thats what I comment on. But as you guys already know this is highly subjective to taste. So it doesn't make you wrong or me, cause it's just an opinion.
I think for the most part most of you guys are pretty good at what you do. There are some areas where you have strengths and other don't but that is the point of this community. For us to build of off each others strengths.
I have gotten used to the new look of the board. I hope all you guys stick around cause I really do like this place.

Well, I have noticed that some of us don't post as much recently, me being one of those people. My excuse is I have been busy with final exams, and now I'm done with the Winter Quarter, so I'm back.
The attitude has changed a bit around here, and I do not in any way believe its b/c the look of GDF changed. Thats absolutely ridiculous. I think some of the attitude brought here was booted a few weeks agohttp://graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/worshippy.gif and soon enough we shoudl all go back to normal. We all know why GDF is here, is to help each other out, whether you be a noobie, an advanced designer, a student, or professional. Who cares. We are all learning new things every single day from each other, and aside from that, we are all friends. Or at least the regulars have become good friends. I hope those of us who are acting like 3rd graders get over it soon, and that the GDF gets back to its normal forum ways. Until then....Ciaohttp://graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/wub.gif

However, with the forum growing which is a good thing, opinions will always be there. I usually pay attention to the critiques by those I know will give me something constructive like the TallMikes, Benjo's, Case, Kool, Madora, DD etc.

Wow! I'm glad someone said something. I've felt different toward the GDF lately as well. I get my busy spells too, but it seemed like I could miss a few days prior to the change and easily catch up to what was going on with the forum. Now I log on after a few days and feel completely lost ??
We all had some really special bonds and friendships going on, especially with the regulars, that I feel have somehow gotten watered down or something? What happened? There used to be a sh!tload of constructive crits on posted work, even to the point of helping folks through an set of logo revisions from start to finish. Now it seems like more of a competition, where one persons work is better than the next and don't you dare say anything negative about it. Truly constructive comments that touch on the good and bad of a piece are few and far between anymore. I'm just as guilty of ripping a piece apart as the next guy, but I'd love to get back to the tight group you could always count on for valuable comments and advice. It seems like we all really backed off after the forum upgrade and I'd hate to see such a great resource go down the tubes. Maybe things just got to complicated to post a response and recieve a notification in your email?
I miss you guys!

Hey Case!
Making up for lost time, I see.
I think the biggest problem has been the Quick reply and the large number of smileys on the post reply.
You can get email notification but you gotta hit Post Reply and scroll way the heck down to the bottom of the page. And on slower connections, those smilies wreak havoc (like at my workplace). I love em but maybe they don't all have to move.

Trust me I thought my daughter had colic at first but it turns out all babies cry alot. Colic is when they don't stop crying. My recomedation to you buy 'The New Father' book :www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0789202751/qid=1080226388/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/103-6143123-7911001?v=glance&s=books (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0789202751/qid=1080226388/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/103-6143123-7911001?v=glance&s=books)
I highly recomend this book as I new nothing before hand about the baby. But your wife is almost due, right? Still it's a great buy it will enlighten you about what the baby is doing in his little swimming pool and when he comes out it's just a really, really good book. It explains there capabilities each week or month and what to expect. Just, just go get the book man, you'll love it.

I have to agree with Kool...I mean this place is a great community - some weeks ppl have tonz of questions and other weeks very few...just the way it is...BIG DEAL!! I also think that D-Frag's thread on the forum has brought up moral some and things are getting back to normal. We don't have to talk about GD 24/7 on this board...that is probobly not what ranks us #1...I'm sure it has something to do with how welcome ppl feel here and how helpful this place has been to everyone. I'm sorry if you aren't getting your questions answered ALL the time, but it happens to everyone. I have posted questions before with no answers from anyone...so you take that question to another source to see what you find.
Being busy at work has ALOT to do with the post count on the board. If we are slammed here at work we don't get to post as much as normal. Most of us on here work ATLEAST 40 hours a week and some much much more. I think that questions are getting asked...questions are getting answered...ppl are joking again...ppl are helping one another....This place is not only about Graphic Design...its about friendship too...I have formed quite a few GREAT friendships thanks to this board and I wouldn't change things on here. It is still an imformation highway for graphic designers from all over with all different strengths.
If you have such a dislike for the way things are here at the GDF then why come here and be so negative?

Who says doodling isn't constructive?!
Perm man you have to smile more offten.
You need thick skin in this industry and your being way to flaky in character. Brush it off and keep it moving.
We can only take so much negative comments. I have no problem with you complaining but you are starting to sound like a baby.

oh man, you guys are brutal.....I think were still getting lots of new people in asking questions, sh!t, last nite alone I solely answered 4 questions in a row, I guess it just depends on who is here at what time. Im extremely busy at work too, the only time I have to jump in here is when im saving big files and I got a minute or two to kill. Stick around perm, i think you have added alot to this forum.

I think having only one web design section has slowed the questions in that category.

me either, post counts are silly unless there is something cool that happens (on some sites they have names they give you as you make more posts) but other then that its just a #, and if anything shows me I need to work more and goof off less : )

Big Perm you're right. It was pretty rude. I guess I meant to be. The morale in this forum has been pretty low. I and some others have been wracking our brain's trying to think up ways to turn it around. This thread, one of the darkest we have ever had in this forum, had finally drifted to the much more pleasant topic of Case's baby and then died out. So you felt you just had to drag it up again. Get people riled up again. The forum is not going to go back to the old format. Deal with it. So you have a choice you can go back to Big Perm the fun guy and long time member. You can wish everybody a good weekend on friday. You can go back to my Friday post right when you went off to get married. And read all the nice things we said about you. You can enter the GDF contest. It seems if the forum means so much to you, you would want to enter. Or you can continue to be pissed off and post nasty little comments in people's threads (You know what I'm talking about.) I would prefer that you come back with a good attitude. But if you can't then I wish you would go find a forum more to you're liking and stop bringing everyone down. If you have a specific gripe then PM me and if I can I will take care of it.
